I see all these people saying they receive hate mail, and I've never ever received any. It just occurred to me the other day that maybe I DO receive what other people would call "hate mail" and I just don't consider it hate mail or something. I have received mail of people trying to tell me I need to convert to their religion. But I never saw it as hateful.

When do you consider something "hate mail"?

Hmmm... Well, one email I got from a Christian was kind of mean -- he (she?) said he'd be looking forward to me "burning in hell."

I thought that was kind of hateful.

A wee bit. Perhaps.

Still, I'd prefer they send me those emails than report me. :(

I wouldn't call conversion attempts "hate mail." Hate mail is more like people who cry & complain on Y!A and when you criticize them for being big babies they write you emails trying to insult & belittle you. They use big words to make themselves sound smarter, and they will write you email after email and then when you reply they'll have the nerve to ask why YOU are writing them. I'm having this problem currently with Brett A. He wrote me a few insulting emails and just wrote me 6 email messages in a row right after he wrote me an email asking why i was still writing him anything.

Some people are so ridiculous. It's best to just delete those messages and move on because as they say..... winning an argument over the internet is like winning the special olympics. You may have gotten the gold medal, but you're still retarded. So, i'm choosing to withdraw from the Y!A special olympics because I do not feel i fit in with those types.

If you get hate mail you'll know it. Trust me!

I also had a guy claim to be a 5th degree master of ju-jitsu or something like that, and he threatened to kill me because I criticized his spelling. Yeah... that's a reasonable response.....
Me:"your spelling is terrible you should take an english course"

Him:"I'm going to kill you with my ju-jitsu powers!"

Wow! I'm impressed! lol

All you can really do is laugh off the stupidity.
edit:
patrick the carpathian above me pretty much hit the nail on the head. They attempt to bolster their egos and self-esteem by insulting someone they don't even know & making themselves look like an @sshole to whoever it is they are trying to insult.

I'd consider it hate mail , if it goes beyond criticizing a statement or action. That is, when it is a personal attack , threatening, &/or gratuitous (off-subject). If it's borderline, but is sent repeatedly, with roughly the same comments, about the same matter , it probably qualifies . All of your questions and comments ( that I've seen) are thoughtful and considerate, so can't imagine that you would receive hate mail. ;D (Never say never ,though . There's always one fool, or crazy person (at least!) in every crowd )

I consider hate mail any mail that personally calls me something negative. I have received that once. If someone mails me and says I need their religion I find it annoying but do not call it hate mail.

You are a nice person who has probably never pissed anyone off here. Believe me you will know hate mail when you get it. Once I got an e-mail and then a video of a woman having her hand cut off by a Muslim. I should have reported him to YA for the terrorist threat that is was, but I just don't speak to any of them anymore. I leave it to others. I don't need this kind of sh.it. I have learned all I need to know about his religion!

I have the mail option switched off. There are too many sick people in the world and I'm too old to be bothered with them. Because, if that option is left open, then sooner or later such mail will come, as you are sure to piss someone off by an answer or question, no matter what you do.

Here's a good example I received a week or two ago.

Subject: hey insane hate-filled liar

Message: Wow, so saying I'm a liar is how you respond to a witness? So just because you didn't personally hear or see what another person said, that means they didn't hear or see it? Didn't you used to be one of the judges of the Inquisition? What a hateful arrogant attitude. What stupid logic. So everyone who calls themself a Catholic is perfect huh? Oh and, nice contradiction, if Christians don't sin and can't err, why are you hatefully calling me a liar?

Make sense false Christian, and stop spouting your biased, evidenceless hate. It is because of evil men like you that the Inquisitions and Crusades occurred. Grow up and learn to control your mouth and temper and respect God.

But so everyone can see you are the satanic hate-filled liar, and very stupid, here are your perfect Catholic friends making their comments about not being Christians:

I,personally, have recieved many e-mails,however only one was hateful(and this was from a Christian)...it was a misunderstanding on his part and I corrected him.

But....I totally agree with you.....all this talk of Hate mail, answers. etc.....either people are very thin-skinned,or they are describing differences of opinion rather than hate.

I am a silly Christian,by the way.

EDIT I was ranting and failed to answer the question...
Hate to me, is disrespecting a person's worth as a human being. Beliefs are just that Beliefs...and are not always worthy of respect. The person is worthy of respect. I try to keep this in mind when I share my personal faith.

Well, trying to convert me is one thing, and annoying enough. But someone who tells me I am going to burn in hell for eternity does not seem to be actually friendly, now does he?

I consider it hate mail when someone tells me I am what's wrong with America, I am stupid or evil or don't know what I am talking about. I figure they can't have any better reason for writing to me at all, now can they? They don't sound like they are trying to be my friend, so why bother at all if it isn't to vent their hate?

If it's insulting or threatening. I had an individual send me an insulting email & then immediately disable his email so I couldn't reply. I just laughed it off as childish--I wanted to thank him for the compliment--& then I posted a question about it on R & S, w/o naming names. That account didn't last very long for some reason, but I had nothing to do with it being deleted.

I have received a couple, and they contained cursing. One told me to be silent like the Apostle Paul told women to be.

I guess I didn't answer a couple of questions the way someone wanted me to? But two in a year is not so bad, I guess. ;o)
