I'm sure you're going to love this question.

First off, hi. I'm not trying to start something. Just would like some friendly input. :D

If you truly believe in your heart (yes, that's not your brain) that there is no God, why do you spend so much time telling people he doesn't exist. This is just what I've noticed..

Are you... dare I say... counter-evangelizing?

Thanks

"Stock Answer: We must stay ever prudent in ensuring that religious dogma does not infiltrate our schools, laws and government. It is our patriotic duty to care about religion."

Cool.
I'm doing just the opposite...that is if you replace religious dogma with the love of Christ.

I was formulating a question something like this one when I read yours.

Atheist seem to put a lot of energy into something they believe doesn't exist. Many seem to be on a crusade to prove there is no God, to the extent of "evangelizing" the truth of nothing.

If I believed something did not exist I don't think it would bother me (even if someone else believe it does exist), to the extent of giving any more than a passing thought.

P.S.
I notice a lot of the above answers spoke about the government and laws. Did you know that 99% of the United States laws are derived from thr 10 Commandments? Did you know that our society and this country is based on Judeo-Christian Ideals? It is these same "Christian based" laws that allow you freedom to spew your pseudo-intellectual stuff in public!

It's not anyone's deities we have a problem with, it's the followers.

I tell people that their gods don't exist, because to me they don't. And then I proceed to answer the rest of their question. I put the first caveat in there so that I don't get slammed for being a bad theist. (If it's on R&S, and you don't specify who you want to answer it, then the question is open to anyone, not just people who share your views.) If the question is serious, then I give the best answer I can. It may not be a popular answer, and it may not be the answer that the person wants to hear, but it will be an answer that I think will help them in some way to gain an understanding of the issue.

But I do admit there are plenty of militant atheists who are content to run around screaming "God is fake!" like that will actually change someone's mind. Ah, optimism.

If christians can go around and evangelize what they believe is the truth, why can't we do the same about what we feel is the truth? Just because we are against the idea of there being a god that does not mean we cannot talk about it to those who do believe in a god, and express our opinions on the subject. This is, after all, an open forum where people can freely give their opinions so long as they are relevant to the question being asked.

I don't try to tell people that God doesn't exist, if you are a true believer no amount of logic and common sence is going to change your mind. But when religious people attempt to rationalize thier credulous beliefs I find it hard not to comment. Btw, the "heart" is actually the brain. There proof to show that feelings operate seperately from the brain.

I believe with my mind. My heart is not an issue. I know that God is highly improbable to exist due to the NO EVIDENCE and that belief in an imaginary being is mass schizophrenia that is tearing our species apart. That is why I educate people on this issue. Theism MUST be stopped. It has gone on for much too long and has done more cons than pros in the overall picture.

The stock answer is really the only answer.

Unfortunately the hidden agenda, secret handshakes and underground Atheist conspiracies that Theists love to accuse us of, drum roll.. don't exist.

We just don't believe in god, and don't think it has any business anywhere but the privacy of your home or your worship place.

The heart is a muscle that pumps blood. It has nothing to do with your emotions. They are controlled by a small area of your brain just at the top of your brain stem, and another two smaller areas of your prefrontal lobes.
Look it up.

Because religious people have a negative impact on the world. If we don't stand up to them the world will be a worse place for it. Hopefully, one day there won't be any more organised religion and people like me won't have to worry about insane religious bastards like GW Bush or Ahmedinajad (sic) being in charge of countries.

So, if we truly believed there wasn't a God, we would say he exists, is that what you're getting at?

I don't evangelize. You will never catch me with a pamphlet, knocking on doors, chatting up strangers, or wearing a sandwich sign. Unless you know me, you won't have a clue what I believe.

Doug,

Believers are very dangerous to society and humankind in general. For proof, see HISTORY. Or WATCH THE NEWS.

It is our responsibility as human beings with regard for others to point out the fallacies that lie in religious doctrine, so that our species can move forward and stop hurting one another.
