The lack of understanding the words written on the pages of the bible that they never read. But this is only those that choose to burn books like Harry Potter and whatnot. This is not a condemnation of all christians as ignorant evil book burners. Only the ones that actually perform this.
p.s. I almost agreed with one_n1ce_guy, until he gave his reasons for keeping his kids away from such material. I don't think he realizes that when god tells Moses to tell his followers to kill their neighbors, brothers, sisters, family and friends for worshipping a golden cow (if that's what they were actually doing), god isn't exactly sending the message that killing is wrong, he's outright ordering it, and encouraging others to do the same. Thus, commanded the Lord... remember?

Three things.
1. Most Christians don't do this. You are stereotyping.
2. The ones that do do it for the same reasons that anyone burns anything they disagree with: ignorance and fear.
3. Rape, murder, and pillage being in a book doesn't make a book immoral. Yes, all that is in the Bible, but the Bible is essentially about why all those things are WRONG. Regardless, most of the worst things that happen are part of what is basically Hebrew history. It is not necessarily good OR bad, it is just what is thought to have happened. Saying the Bible is immoral to have that in it is like saying an American history textbook is wrong for discussing the Civil War, the assassination of James Garfield, or race riots.

Well 1.) The bible has all of that INCLUDING the WRATH OF GOD after that, which teaches them it's wrong
2.) I don't burn books, but I am not allowing my Son to read a book that talks like certain things are "cool" or "accepted in society"
I did some pretty crappy things in my day and I would NEVER allow my Son to make the same MISTAKES I made by thinking something is accepted when it is NOT and the T.V. and certain Books talk like it is.
Its called being a concerned parent and wanting better for a child.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Sara doesn't believe in the Bible, because it chronicles evil actions of people instead of just containing doses of good, spiritual, touchy-feely stories.
Well, Sara, the Bible chronicles the lives of people, both good and evil, in an attempt to allow us to learn from both examples without committing the bad deeds which result in bad consequences. Did Cain not suffer immensely for killing Abel? Is it not good for us to know that?
Now, I don't burn books, but as a Christian, I will keep inappropriate material away from myself and my children... violent video games, sex-laden music lyrics, raunchy romance novels, and the reason is simple: whereas the Bible teaches against evil, the material that you are referring to actually glamorizes it and tempts the user to experiment with sin.

that's a shame to think of that the church homes worldwide huge experience the threat of God's actual call Jehovah, and desire to exterminate it from each place that their ultimate parishioners might even see it mutually as attending centers or analyzing their very own replica of the bible at domicile. might desire to the rationalization be that when returned, Jehovah's Witnesses the uncovered the fake doctrine lots that Church officers think of that in the event that they take God's call out of the remainder 4 places that's latest in maximum bibles that individuals would be greater gullible and are available returned to fake faith dressed as Christendom? might desire to be! on the instant, maximum bibles have Jehovah's call at Exodus 6:3; Psalms eighty 3:18 (19); Isaiah 12:2; 26:4 I positioned into parentheses Psalms eighty 3:19 via fact in some German bible Jehovah's call is stumbled on there particularly of verses 18.

no one should burn books period
and I am a christian but not a parent
and I would never burn a book. If I didn't want my child reading a particular book, then I just wouldn't buy it for her. But if she was smart enough to go to the library and check it out and still read it, then we would have a sit down discussion about it.

What is in the Bible is a truth that should be universally known. I wouldn't read certain parts to my children until they were old enough to understand. I don't know about burning them. How about just not buying them in the first place?

Okay, come back down to reality...very few people burn books...and those that do have a whole host of issues that a team of psychoanalysts would love to deal with them about...
The last good book burning was a hyped up drama by a specific church that was about as grounded in theology as the hoard hanging out with that Reverend Phelps idiot...

My first Guess is the instilled Guilt they have attained from the Church associating certain subjects and materials with "bad" "evil" or "dirty" and the last Big One "Sinful"; the mother of all Guilts...
By burning such a book is figuratively washing their own hands of "filth" they hold within; I say within as they apparently are emotionaly connected to this "filth" be belief and this can't be shown much more clearly than by burning of such books.
One may argue the "Bible" teaches.....yet, the Concept of "God" and Truth were Authored by others within that very bible and by interpretation that word is twisted into false moral beliefs due to cultural issues alone; ie; they felt it was "Gods" word so they preached it as such"...
They can burn as many books as they wish and that Guilt and emotional connection will not change in this life or the next; they must Face all the "WHYS" of that Guilt and this, is Truth.

Sara, first I have to ask where you saw book burning?
Also, as a Christian parent, I have never, not has anyone one I ever knew, burned a book of any kind!
I have thrown pornography in the trash! Does that count?
I guess I could ask the question "what causes atheist parents to sexually molest their kids?", but what kind of thing is that to do without PROOF! And y'all say the Christians are weird!
