There is the spirit if the antichrist and ther is the Spirit of God (which we are of).
"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that SPIRIT OF THE ANTICHRIST, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
We are of God: he that KNOWETH God heareth US; he that is not of God HEARETH NOT US. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error." 1 John 4:1-6

doug, I'm sorry if the Word of God offends you. I don't mean to offend you. It's just good for Christians to "edify" one another.

Your question in itself is very encouraging and i thank you for posting it.. the verses are awesome and any christian who has experienced the greatness of Jesus Christ who indwells them would say a resounding " AMEN!"
The Lord in us is greater than he who is in the world.. i even appreciate the capital H for He in the Lord in this verse. The Lord in His ascension surpassed all the domains. From the middle of the earth... where He took the keys of death and hades and made an open show of the enemy..
Not only did our Lord do this.. He also Ascended over the principalities and powers and rulers and authorities in the air... He is the Head over all things...He is enthroned in Glory and has poured out all that He has obtained and attained INTO the Church...
Today we do not live in this world as fearful people.. We have the Enthroned, Glorified King of kings and Lord of lords indwelling us..He has subdued satan and will one day cast the false prophet, the beast.. antichrist...death... satan INTO the Pit forever.
I appreciate too that our Lord gives discernment through His Spirit to know what is of Him and what is not. We have the Spirit of truth who leads us into all the reality of Christ day by day as we abide in the Lord as branches in the Vine.

That passage cannot be describing christians since they have not yet learned how to tell the difference between The Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

John 16:33
"I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
Romans 8
More Than Conquerors
31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then can condemn? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:
"For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered." [l]
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, [m] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

If you think back to when you were a child.. you know this statement is absolutely true.
Whoever is in love with the world will lose everything, He who hates the world will inherit eternal life.
Close your eyes and picture you exist but the world does not.
He who is in you surely Greater than he that is in the world.
Unfortunately for now we have to live in the world.

Great. More mumble-jumble mixed with random Bible verses taken out of context. That's a big help. My life is so much better now!
