she's only 2 years old, our cats have a history of it. she's red right above her teeth.. all around.. i'm afraid it's going to be the real deal. am i overreacting? does it sound like it might be early stages of cancer?

also, can oral cancer be transferred from cat to cat just by eating the same food?

The only person who can tell you this is your veterinarian. You need to take her to the vet.
It sounds like she might have gum disease or gingivitis, both of which need to be treated by your vet.

No, cancer can't be `transferred' from cat to cat.

Hopefully, you have already heeded the above advise and brought her to a vet.

Although you can never truly rule out cancer, it is not the most likely differential in a 2 year old cat.

Two other big possibilities that are more likely are an infectious stomatitis/gingivitis (as happens with dental disease) or some kind of auto-immune-mediated stomatitis).
A vet will take a look and try to figure it out, give appropriate medications and possibly recommend a dental cleaning under anesthesia.

But despite this information, only trust the person who actually does a physical exam on your cat, as it is impossible to diagnose things on the Internet!!!!

take the cat to the vet. no cats can NOT give other cats oral cancer from eating out of the same bowl.

Just like in people....cancer isn't contagious...it is usally genetic...or in the case of some skin cancers, from the sun. If you cats are not related, then I wouldn't be worried about it. Redness of the gums is usually severe gingivitis, and in some cases stomatits...

There is one real good way to tell for sure: take her to a vet. No one here can tell, because we are not professionals, and if we were, we can't see your cat from here.
