...and 4 more years to become citizens?

http://www.ailf.org/ipc/policy_reports_2003_LivesInLimbo.asp

"However, an arbitrary limit on the number of asylees who are in fact allowed to do so each year, combined with mismanagement of the entire process by federal immigration authorities, has created a situation in which asylees must wait at least 12 years to become permanent residents – and 4 more years to become U.S. citizens."

What are your thoughts on this wait time? Do you think it is valid to say that 12 years is too long? Or do you think they should just wait, even if it takes 12 years?

There is a reason for the wait. If they have a problem with the wait they can gladly immigrate to a country whose wait time is less.

The wait time is perfect!!! If someone doesn't like it , then they should not come. We shouldn't be worrying about pleasing them anyway. No U.S. citizen = no U.S. citizen rights. Do it right and wait your turn. It is what it is!!!!!

for heaven sake! they didn't have to come here! its like a party. if you don't like it, you get the hell out!! they need to have dignity in this situation. its a privilege to be an American and they will just have to wait their term if they want such a great privilege.
