The couple traveled a lot, so each table was named after a destination they'd been to. Each guest received a "passport" (looked like a real passport too) to tell them which table they were seated at. Then the favors on each table cooresponded to that destination...ie coffee for Seattle, beach candles for Bermuda etc...

Theme weddings such as using a historic building, circus, zoo, or a movie theater. Something that reflects you & your fiances' interests of course. We went to a Medievil wedding in Las Vegas and all the guests wore costumes and the reception was eating dinner while watching kinghts joust. We had friends that let their 150 lb. llama wander through the reception. Now that was unique.

The pajama party reception I planned. It was actually very elegant and fun :)
Since I came up with the idea and out of 300 nobody had seen it I have to say its the most unique. Everything else has been seen at least 4 or 5 times. ;-) Don't worry so much about out doing everybody else on uniqueness, just do what you love and what fits your personality. It will be plenty unique.

Well, my brother and his wife used her teddy bear as the 'ring bear'. A family friend had her brother as her honor attendant. I saw one bride march up the aisle to the theme from Star Wars.
There are any number of things you can do to make your wedding special. Just think about what makes you and your intended special as a couple and honor that.
Oh, and most of all, have fun!

A couple of unique things we'll be doing for my daughter's wedding:
The photographer will supply a 16 x 21 copy of their engagement photo, set in a very large matte, that the guests will sign instead of a guest book. This is probably not the newest idea ever, but I haven't seen it, and think it's a super idea.
Instead of a regular cake, they have chosen croquembouche. It was tricky to find a baker who would make this for us, but we finally found one, and it's going to be wonderful! It's basically a cone-shaped pile of cream puffs, filled with mousse, and decorated with spun sugar. Hers will have two flavors of mousse, chocolate and grand marnier.

At my wedding the table centerpieces were cakes instead of flowers or fish bowls.
The cakes were decorated with white chocolate and white chocolate covered strawberries. People went crazy for them. They were gorgeous.

when you are leaving the hall, use sparkler instead of throwing rice. it makes it fun for everyone. Also, i had a friend who released butterflies at their outdoor wedding, it was beautiful.
Dancing, music,
Take pictures BEFORE you get married, i know the rule is the groom can't see the bride until she walks. but trust me, your guests won't be bored stiff waiting for the reception to start. Plus, it eases the tension, because you and your love will see each other before the big moment.
Good luck!

I had the wedding pictures of our families, from great grandparents down to brothers and sisters, scanned in to my computer so that I could make adjustments for size, then printed and framed them. They were then given to the caterer to put on the cake table in random order to signify the blending of the families and as a salute to the generations. I also wanted a way to have some memorial of my parents, both who had already passed away, without being overtly sentimental about it. The ironic part was the way they placed the pictures on the table, the picture of us the photographer took cutting the cake, included only one framed photo - the one of my parents!
Also, I printed place cards for the guests with their names on them, but I happen to detest assigned seating. Instead the cards were used as a way to 'save your seat' as well as anyone who wanted to sit at the same table with you. I remember many weddings seeing women's purses spread out over a table or the chairs placed up against it to save seats. BUT they also served double duty - at each place setting was a pen that I had ordered in our colors and imprinted with our names and date. After dinner everyone was asked to take their card and pen in hand and write us a note on the inside, then place them in a large glass vase (that I found for $5!) . That also got rid of the dreaded 'Guest Book'.
Since our wedding was the day before Mother's Day I had the DJ call up all Mothers to the dance floor, where my flower girls had baskets of flowers that they handed out to the women. Once everyone had their flowers we requested that the rest of the guests come up and dance with the ladies, whether it was their own Mother, the mother of their children or just a mother they knew, while 'Wind Beneath My Wings' was played. My new step-daughters chose to dance with me. Not a dry eye in the place.

Weddings which had ethnic flairs - from the language of the ceremony, to traditions done there at the church, to the ethnic food and music at the reception. Have been to Italian, Ukrainian, Ruthenian, etc.
