Okay, so my moms not happy about me changing my hair colour... or paying 80 dollars either!

My hairs sort of a light ash brown, and I want to make it darker brown. Not too dark, just a little bit darker.

She says she wont pay for a proffesional to do it, but I can do it myself like using dye you get in shops... She said she would help me do it aswell.

I'm getting a semi permanent so it would probably last a month or two,

do you think its okay to do?

I have always dyed my own hair since I was 13 years old I am now 21 and gettin ready to dye it again tonight. It will not damage your hair if you condition it enough and take care of it. don't dye it too often back to back or you will fry your hair and thats not pretty. wait like 6 months to a year to dye it after dying it the first time by yourself. Use the shampoos and conditioners for colored and treated hair that is the best. Hope your hair turns out good and hope that helps you

Yes I do it all the time. Well more like every six weeks. Many women color their own hair at home. Don't but into what some say go to a professional. If all you want to do is darken it a bit. That is very easy to do at home. With a store bought hair dye. I myself use clarol. I put it on wait the the 25 minutes it says then rinse it. I like to shampoo mine before I use the conditioner. It comes with an after color conditioner. I've had great results. So color doesn't stain your skin just put a bit of lotion around the surrounding hair line. Since your mom is going to help you she'll know. Also don't wear any clothes your fond of while getting your hair died. If it gets on clothes it'll stain.

Yes it is OK to do this. You can get the hair color at Wal Mart if need be. I have been doing my own for ever. I have long hair and it cost way to much to get it done. It might take me 2 -3 boxes but it works out cheaper and just the same. You can also do highlights. Stay away from colors with ask in them they tend to turn it red. Try a Med brown to start with and if you want it darker then you can go darker start with a lighter color no mater what you do. Its easy to go darker not always easier to go lighter. Best of luck. Hey if my husband can do my hair then any body can do it.

NO thats a lie it will damage your hair. It's just better to get it done professionally...the older you get with you dying your hair yourself...the more damaged it will get. You can say that it doesn't but people who dye there hair don't know what damaged hair looks like or is. Stylists know what shade of a color matches your skin tone the best too. Because sometimes you'll dye your hair and think it looks okay with your skin but out on the street people cal tell you did it yourself. A stylist might add some highlights to that look really good.

People who dye there hair don't know how much better it looks when you do get it professionaly done...sierously DONT listen to them. Its awful for your hair, awful.

I've been dying my hair for three years and every time I do it, it's at home. As long as you follow the directions EXACTLY [tip: heat processing and leaving the dye on a bit longer makes it more vibrant and longer lasting], notthing should go wrong. And if it does, there's removers.

yes. I do mine all the time! I go to walmart and I think I use Herbal Ess. My actually hair color is 'ash brown' and I make mine lighter. Yes it works. But word of advice don't buy the cheap brands!

Yes...but at the same time it's better to go to a professional because once you start putting chemicals into your hair you run the risk of causing damage

It is OK. Just read the directions really good. Dont get dye on your skin not good. And i would leave the color on a little less then it says. Trust me. Good luck.

They sell that stuff and tons of people use it (including my mother!). However, I chose to do it myself once and COMPLETELY obliterated my hair by using a dye that had ingredients in it that straightened my naturally curly hair. It was horrible and I am completely anti-hair-dye now haha! Leave that jazz to the pros!!!
