"The Homeland Security Department has received a torrent of complaints about delays in passport applications that have hampered summer travel plans."

Many people have had to, and still are, waiting far beyond the waiting time given for a passport application to process. Because of this, the government is easing into the new passport requirements. Some people are even thinking about going on a vacation without a passport, and just "sneaking" back into the US, where they are citizens.

What are your thoughts on the delays? Do you think this could have been foreseen? Or do you think people should just wait, even if it takes longer then it is supposed to?

Well yes it should have been forseen, you come up with a policy that suddenly requires millions to get passports they never needed befor. Its comical that the only people that seem to need a passport to cross the mexican border are United States Citizens

First of all its the State Department that issues Passports not Homeland Security. With the new additions of needing a passport to go to Mexico and Canada we knew the request would go up since those are the two most visited countries. People as usual waited too long to apply, no ones fault but their own.

Your Congressman are able to assist expedite besides.

Another example of people who one would assume are educated, showing complete and overwhelming incompetence.
A typical teenager could make a good guess that once you implement a law that requires millions more people have passports, that millions more people will be applying for them.
There is no excuse for this happening, and someone, probably several someones, should be fired.

The State Department screwed up and is leaving us open for allowing people in. They wanted to make the borders more secure that they are not doing it.

Of course, I'm not surprised by more incompetence by our government. This is the norm for them.

Just hand everyone a passport. Isn't that similar to what they are doing with the illegal aliens? Oh, I forgot. Unlike us other country's don't let you in if they don't know who you are. Silly me.
