Suggest you add Elmer Gantry to your reading list.

I'd prefer to hear the truth from a man in a chicken suit. Somehow, when your face is hidden, you tell more truth.

And Pastor Art, I had never heard of the Florida tuxedo before, and I'm from Florida! Maybe that's a recent coinage? I thought of a lime green golfing ensemble with that particular peach accent we all remember from Miami Vice. I got so tired of peach and green when I lived in Florida! But that's beside the point.

When I attended church in my youth (in Florida), I wore shorts and T-shirts sometimes and never got "dressed down" for it. I personally associate a preacher in a suit with the "suits" of corporations--unapproachable, closed-minded, speaking from a script. I'd much rather see an old hippie on a Harley who sports lots of interesting tattooes going off on an obscure philosophical point than sit in front of a TV with a moving mannikin speaking rote phrases from the Bible.

Do not be deceived. Many false teachers come to the masses looking all shiny and dazzling but what they teach is nothing but Satan's spew. I'm not saying that ministers of God should wear rags or biker clothes to church but at the same time they should not make some outward show. What matters is that they preach the gospel faithfully and always proclaim the truth.

Well Im a Muslim and God is beautiful and loves beauty. I see nothing wrong with looking good. Plastic surgery is an extreme however.

Must a religious person look ugly to be convincing to you? I don't understand the Christian mentality.

I would need the money out front, and a limited contract. Also a *ahem* private secretary. Just kidding. *sigh* No, even though I consider televangelists to be little more than bad actors, I still have to look myself in the mirror.

People are looksist. Who will get more donations from viewers and higher ratings--an ugly person or a good looking person? I'm not saying it's right. It's not. That's just the way things go.

Something tells me that nobody would listen to someone who isn't in makeup and dressed nice. This is who you would see to if it weren't for loads of makeup and plastic surgery:

Here is the same guy after the surgery and with loads of makeup:

They want to attract new members, and they feel looks are a part of it. Last time I checked Vanity was one of the 7 deadly sins.

Preachers, like that. I wonder if I would even call them that.
They in my opinion, are about money and clothes, and really do not care for anyone, but their selfish selves.

they have to charm millions of people and they have to look presentable. most of them have studied public speaking. they're like the political leaders too but in a different arena. preachers need to have that charisma to entice people.
