JD Powers finally ranked Ford higher than toyota and Nissan in recent quality. Doesn't it finally feel good that you now have a domestic car manufacturer that beats Japan's and Europes competition? Now the only thing Ford has to focus on is beating Honda in quality, then they have it made. Ford has also earned the most awards than any car manufacturer in the world!

Yes, it's really good to get some newsworthy recognition.
American owned auto manufacturers have been working very hard to increase quality in recent years, but have a hard time conveying their improvements to the American public which has turned a deaf ear.
The 'sterling' reputation of the foreign manufacturers has been declining as well.

Last years J.D, Powers reliability study, (which studies a model YEAR for 3 years on the road) showed Ford/Lincoln & Mercury ALL above average. In fact Mercury shot to #2!

It will be very interesting to watch the next couple of years.
The next study results come out in August....but the EXCELLENT quality of the Fusion & Edge won't appear on this particular study because this one has followed the models from year 2005.

Also the last couple of years the Japanese manufacturers have stepped up productivity & increased their defects & recalls dramatically.....the press has been calling it 'growing pains' for a little toooooo long now.

This is a very good thing for North Americas economy as well!
You should read the entire blog entry (on my 360 page) called "At Witz End" to understand how the auto industry affects our economy.

So YES, Tyler ...I do believe in Fords champion quality....but then I always have.........

Ford is finally learning that quality and fuel economy is champ.. but most of that initial quality is from the 500 and fusion.. both I barely see or work on.. edge is another one. But then my area is more of a truck country.. and surprisingly the new diesel is not the headache as the 6.0 was....

There is enough data from enough sources to believe
that the quality on the new cars is good.
The Fusion, Milan, MKX.The next trick is to get the long term reliablity to the samepoint. I have friends and neighbors with Ford cars / trucks that have exceeded 120K miles with little issues. It proves they can do it.
Oh, and Toyota is having camshaft issues with their new
Tundra truck. There is a service bulletin and maybe a recall coming. F series rules.

Then why do I still lose my butt in negative equity when I try to trade in my Ford after 3 years? At least i can break even with a foreign car.

To the point below, putting money down now is the same thing as negative equity. In fact, worse because my money now is worth more than the same money in 3 years. Simple Economics. Must be a college dropout that had to settle for building or selling American cars.

I have owned many American cars, and all of them have been garbage. I finally gave up. What is worse is that the dealerships and manufacturers didn't give two craps about my complaints or the quality of their cars. Pontiac was by far the worst.
Ford is the best of the domestics, but still not up to par in my mind.
Once Ford does this for 5-6 years, I might believe again. Glad they are on the right track, but I am still suspect.
