this is extremely dangerous for the dog. You could break the dogs neck. Never pick up a little animal by the neck only by placing your arms under the stomach and lifting gently. I have seen dogs get hurt by being picked up by the neck. Yes, when they are babies their mother knows how to pick them up but as they grow this is dangerous.

Why in the world would you want to do that? Only mother dogs and cats pick up their young that way. It isn't good to do that when they are older, it hurts them. However, I don't think it would kill them unless you shook them or something like that! Be gentle!

not if you use his scruff. this is the fleshy part on the back of his neck. that's how their mothers move them around when they are babies and it would not hurt him to do so now either. it may be a useful training tool because then he would associate you with his mother who was the pack leader and the being they learned the rules of the world from.

Of course not!! dogs will usually wail a little but at the same time it won't hurt the dog. i have a dog and i pick him up by the neck and nothing happends. maybe they'll bite you because they fell uncomfortable when humans touch them like that ^_^

Why would you do that? Just because the mother carries her puppies by the scruff, doesn't mean you should. Cats and kittens either.

No I have done that to my chihuahua and hes alive. The only thing you want to be careful about is that you dont bust a vein because it is possible but highly unlikely. Hope this helps.

No, but it wont do the dog a lot of good, they should be lifted by holding under their belly and supporting their bum.

it will not kill you dog to pick it up by the scruff of the neck at all. that is how they are picked up by their mothers and that's how dogs in the wild are picked up as well.

Good luck!!!
