You heard right. At Ps. 83:18 it says: "That people may know that you, whose name is Jehovah, you alone are the Most High over all the earth."
At John 17:3, Jesus said in prayer to God: "This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ."
You can't get more plain than that.

Jesus in helping us to pray in a respectable way and using a model prayer opened with the important words that his fathers name was- SPECIAL- and not something to be ignored. At one time other gods were somehow given names by ie.Egyptians and especially in eras as these importance of the creator of heaven and earth having a name were great and for a God who was proud to give some men a name and angels a name ,then how much more did he want be acknowledged by a great name not just a name ,and one with great meaning at that.

People make gods of many things but the one true God is Jehovah. There is proof all around you. Do you think that the Big Bang would cause something so perfect, and precise as the Earth? Transcripts have been found that mention His name. You should read the Bible it really helps and I'm sure the witnesses will always answer any question that you have with it.

you can very easy find out. look in your king james bible and look at ps 83 verse 18. it will say the same thing. allah is a false god. Jesus Christ never said he was God. Jesus said he cannot do anything without the Father in heaven. who was Jesus Christ praying to? not himself. the new king james bible took out Jehovah's name and put in Lord. God and Lord are titles. can I ask you a question? how come the son has a name and not the Father? we have names and so does Jehovah God. please see the website at www.watchtower.org

God has many names in the old testament.
But...
God has only one name in the new testament:
Abba, Daddy, Father, Pop!
Jesus came to reveal God's true nature and His heart to be your Daddy!!

Did you read it in your own Bible? Do you believe they magically snuck it in there? Then it is true.
The question you should now ask yourself is why have you not been shown this before now by those you trusted to tell you such things?

There are no true gods - they're all made up, sorry.
Nobody can prove any gods, much less a specific god, exist; many people will tell you their god exists but no others, but will never be able to prove it, even if they think so. Some will threaten you with eternal pain or promise eternal joy to get you to believe in their god; these are all stories, created for people who were scared long before we understood the universe. Now we have no more reason for these superstitions.

Yes its true.
Some bibles dont have the name in it because it was removed. some removed it because it was too "holy" but Jehovah wants us to use his name. if he didnt then he wouldnt have given it to us.
And how are we going to get to know someone if we dont know their name??
