The siren call of a high-paying job is the usual reason.

But, don't be fooled, American's aren't really highly paid, not once you factor in how hellishly expensive it is to live here. Sure, due to whacky exchange rates, Americans have huge quantities of theoretical wealth flying through thier checking accounts, but they need that stream of currency just to survive, and, if it's cut off, you've got only a short time to get it started again or you're out on the street. Then there's health care. Wanna pay 700, 1000, or more bucks a month for health insurance? Health insurance that'll be canceled the moment you really need it?
