Having your SSN and and name used can be a handful trust me I once had someone use my name on the east cost and I have never lived there ever and it went on my credit report I had to prove that I have never lived in the state that i was reported I was as well I had to call social security department and told them what was going on. I had to go through Court over all this to get it straightened out. It took me over a year to get the charges taken off my name and the person put in prison for ID theft. It is a Federal crime for some one to do this to you and what you will have to start with is. Talk to your local police department about who in your area works on ID theft, call social security and tell them what is going on most chances is you will have to have a open case through a local department to flag your SSN and case number. Then you let the authorities take control in finding out where and when as well as how many times your name and SSN has been used by either one or more people. There is one downfall in this. If a person takes your SSN and makes all charges on your credit in good standing then there is nothing you can really do tell they make you have a bad account. then you have to prove alot more information is going to be damaging to you through taxes. So you really need to stop what ever is happening now rather then later cause you may end up in a different tax bracket and have to pay sop much more later on in the year as well as if you get audited then you will have to prove things without a doubt that you have never worked for aonther company then the one you are at now along with the fact that your photo will help clear things up as well. I found a site for you through social security to help you out.

Absolutely

One good thing about the Patriot Act and HIPAA laws is that banks and other institutions have to verify your SSN and DOB and etc. It's making it harder for people to steal your identity for the long term. This includes illegal aliens running around with someone else's info.

To prevent problems for the short term you may want to purchase a credit monitoring service. It'll notify you if a credit card is opened or a loan or etc.

They can open up accounts and credit cards in your name. Then max them out, buy high end items and then disappear.

And then you are left holding the bag. Your credit report will be trashed and it is very, very, very had to repair.

It will take years of work and thousands of dollars.

Never give you social security out unless it is your employer, or the police. I don't even give it to Dr's office anymore.

That "IS" ID theft....and they can wipe you out financially. Call your local PD first, then contact SS. Report it to your bank and get new accounts, same with all credit cards and any other accounts you have, stocks, bonds...everything.

They could pretty much ruin you if they wanted. Go and get loans and credit in your name and then never pay them. The creditors will come and find you to get the money back. Your credit gets slammed and plus you will have years of dealing with collection agencies.
