I have sensitive skin too & this is what I do:
1) avoid products w/ the following preservatives: quartenium-15, formaldehyde, DMDM hydantoin
2) avoid heavily scented products; try to find fragrance-free alternatives
3) avoid products w/ menthol, mint, eucalyptus or citrus oils
Some of my favorite drugstore/mass market products are:
Cetaphil soap & lotion, Eucerin lotion and Gentle Hydrating Cleanser (white bottle/pink label; http://eucerinus.com/products/face_hcleanser.html) , Dove cleasing bar for sensitive skin, Aquaphor Healing Ointment
Here's the link to an ingredient dictionary:
http://www.cosmeticscop.com/learn/dictionary.asp?TYPE=MAIN
I sometimes refer to it before buying a product to check any unfamiliar ingredients.

Sensitive skin can usually react to most popular products, so dont be fooled by their adverts. The only products that wont react to sensitive skin are natural/organic products. Like you, i also have VERY sensitive skin, any cream i put on my face will make it worst!!.. BUT.. this is where 'Dr.Hauschka' comes in!!.. Ever hurd of this make?? well if you havent i suggest you try it out.. im possitive it will help..
Dr Hauschka products are natural products, they dont contain any nasty things that will upset your skin. And they work wonders!. They have so many products for all skin types..
I dont know were you live, but they have a website u can buy from and they also have a number of their products on ebay!!! and they sell most of their stuff in health food stores!.. its great if you try the products out.. its so soft on skin, its even for littles babies to use.. which is great, cuz that shows you how soft it is on skin.. They also have consultations which are great, beacuse you get a one on one chat with a specilist and they can take a look at your skin and suggest you whats best to use...
Hope this is good info for you..

Sensitive skin usually benefits from stuff that is frangrance free, have you tried baby oil or products for children as they can be very gentle on the skin.
Failing that, natural remedies like essential oils and creams would benefit your skin whilst keeping it hydrated it would also be very gentle on your skin.
Depending where you live I would suggest try your local health shop, your pharmacist is also a fountain of knowledge and can direct you to some products more designed for really sensitive skin or your Doctor who could refer you to a skin specialist you could give you some creams to combat sensitivity.
