I do not know what is truth and what not, Feroz, but I agree with you that this was a bit provocative.

Quote, "On what grounds Salman Rushdie has been awarded. Western nations are hurting the feelings of 1/4 inhabitants?"
Western nations? The man was not knighted by "Western nations" but by the United Kingdom, which is, in case you do not know, a smallish island of the northern shores of the European continent. A...as in A...western nation "awarded" the novelist, not all of the West.

Did you read his book? If not, shut up.
Salman Rushdie is an accomplished author. The Satanic Verses (both the actual verses and the book) is a legitimate topic of discussion. If you do not wish to participate, don't.
And finally, you don't speak for all muslims. They're not all personally offended by Rushdie.

Abir: Ever hear of Richard Dawkins? Christopher Hitchens? Monty Python's "Life of Brian"?

First of all, not all the western nations are giving him an award, only one country
Secondly, stop whining !! All your religion does is whine about being "offended" and "feelings being hurt" because someone says something bad about your religion or simply draws a picture of your prophet. Do you know how childish that sounds to reasonable people?
There's an old saying - "sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me" - maybe that should be in your holy book.
Stop acting so childish. Grow up, this is the 21st century, not the 6th

1. it was not the west, just the U.K. who awarded him a knighthood.
2. for services to literature, i personally do not enjoy his writing but many people rate him highly, that is why he got it. i suppose the fact that he stood up to the threats of the theocratic autocrats and blood hungry mobs won him some admirers.
3. yes, salman rushdie has the right to say and write what he wants, everyone does here. it is a basic part of our culture and we are as mindful of it and hold it as dear as you do your prophet. we find attacks on that right as shocking as you would an insult to your religion.
4. it is only your truth.
5. 1/6 and i suppose a lot of them don't know about it or don't care.

You know what? People have a right to freedom of speech, even if 1/4 of the planet's population disagree. The man wrote a book muslims don't like, so what? You have the right not to read it. Everybody's feelings get hurt sometimes--that's life. The vast majority of us put on our grown-up undies & get over it.

There is more "truth" in one of Rushdie's novels then there is in the sum total of all scriptures - and that includes the Koran. I'm sure 3/4 of the world population was offended to discover the world was not flat - and a large number may not believe it to this day.
Any idea worth having is fair game for ruthless criticism, - and even ridicule. And indeed my freedom to express myself about ideas trumps your sensitivity to criticism.

I certainly have been asking myself that query when you consider that they made the fact. Whoever reported the knighthood ought to have generic it would open up previous wounds returned. i will think of of a few people who could have been suitable rewarded with the kind of call than Salman Rushdie.

I do not know about the "award".. but I know he is on a death list by the muslims... That makes him OK in my book... The enemy of my enemy is my ally... what "truth" are you talking about... this truth....
All muslims must believe, to be true muslims... that the quaran comes from the so-called god allah... that there is only one quaran... that there is only one islam... that the quaran is islam and islam is the quaran.
The quaran clearly states that All who do not submit to the law of the quaran and islam are to be killed...what dose this make ALL who follow the quaran and islam, relative to the rest of the human population of the Earth... can you say... enemies

I find religion in general to be offensive, but you don't see me demanding that people stop adhering to their faith. Perhaps you should learn to respect other people's right to express themselves and appreciate it when they can do it so well? Your statistics if true represent an issue with respect rather than an issue with the content of the expression.

1st - He was knighted for being a good writer.
2nd - Get over the anger stuff, first it was a cartoon of Ali or whatever his or her name is, now it is because some guy writes a book. Gee my mother in law did a cookbook and she cooks terrible, should I protest to the world.
