A parent has visitation-only rights, and for his full week this summer, he is leaving his 12-year old alone in his trailer all week while he is at work for 11 hours per day. I understand this is wrong for the obvious reasons, but is the parent breaking any laws by doing this? Can this threaten his future visitation rights if taken to the courts?

Obviously this is not a good or constructive thing to do. I would think he would want his time with his child to be a special, constructive, fun time. Can you talk to him about it? Ask him if there would be a better time for the visit, a time when he can take some time off to spend with his child. Tell him you want the visit to be a good experience for both of them and this just doesn't sound like it will be a good experience for either of them.

I would still check it out legally though (don't mention that to him) in case you need to be prepared to take action for the safety and well-being of your child.

Check the laws in the state you live in. I'm sure it would make him look bad.
