I think the word that makes your daily meeting worthless is "Complicated" If your meeting lasts more than 30 minutes then its going too long. You should have a morning meeting that discusses the big ticket items for the day, and if something is going to take a lot of time, schedule it later.

Rudy Gulienis (sp) book "Leadership" talked a lot about how the morning meeting was a cornerstone of the day.

You can have a more complicated meeting less frequent than daily to hash out the big stuff with everyone, otherwise you could be wasting a lot of time.

I have never found them to be useful.

Microsoft Outlook (really an e-mail program on steriods, for Microsoft office) is about all I need.
