Part of the frustration of this site is that it is not a forum for discussion or debate: someone asks a question (frequently as a peg on which to hang their own opinions!) and a number of people offer answers. There's no real debate (because you just get that 'You have already answered this question' flag) and so a lot of posters can be immoderate in their replies - the 'You get one shot so give it your best' kind of attitude. Or should that read, 'Give it your worst'? (Yes, I know that there is an Edit button, but how often do you see it used?)
A discussion board, by contrast, enables two or more people to respond, if they wish, to a number of points that other contributors have made, and so the process can go on almost indefinitely. I suspect that means that people may be more genuinely interested in the process of debate and so more measured in their responses.
I see more goading of Christians by atheists than the other way round, though that does happen too. Perhaps we should ask why those who profess no religion spend so much time hanging out on the Religion & Spirituality site. Is there really a secret yearning?

No, that is not why, with all due respect and in all sincerity. The goading is mutual, and it is the unfortunate but inevitable result of everyone wanting to be totally right and prove it to the "other side."
There are many truths and many ways, and I am not going to goad with this answer. I am sincere when I say I am as dedicated a pagan and Witch as you are a Christian, and that I am as sure of my beliefs as I'm sure you are about yours. I wish you all good things on your spiritual journey, and I really mean that. Please believe me when I say that I am totally not "unsure" about your God, I have been there and that path doesn't work for me.
I wish we could see the similarities in our beliefs, there really are some! For example, I'm sure as a good person, you believe in the beauty of the world, just like pagans do, and many other faiths, and I believe that many Christians do a lot of good work to help the poor and needy in our communities. The better we all get along, I think the more we will quit the goading.
At least I hope so!
Bright blessings,
Sincerely,
Lady Morgana )0(

Do you realise how many religions exist on this earth?
Get down off your pedastal and clean up your own back-yard before you start on someone elses.
Take up a hobby.
Go for a walk
Go write an opera
Enjoy an icecream
Do anything that helps you to enjoy your life. Life is so very short and you are in for a rude awakening when you see that there is a whole world of people from different religions, beliefs, colours, sexes, etc. who don't necessarily believe in what you believe. And, that is ok.
You should ask yourself why is it so important to force your beliefs on others? Because that is, indeed, what you are doing.
Live and let live and love your life and who you are and others will return that in kind.

When I reply to questions on this particular-type site, I`m not goading, I`m trying to get religious people to see how brainwashed they are from a very young, impressionable age.
And trying to convert them to our way of thinking, like they did with us those many years ago when we were vulnerable and not able to reason for ourselves, with no choice as to the alternative. Christians etc. tried to teach us and change our way of thinking to theirs, why shouldn`t we atheists try and get them to see the truth, the way of life? What`s wrong with tit-for-tat?
Any intelligent person, casting aside any religious aspects and teachings, should come to realise that all these so-called miracles and stories in the bible just cannot be true.
Even so, there are certain things in the bible that have a true basis, but the basis is not miraculous.
Take the Ten Plagues of Egypt - the result of the first plague led to the second plague because of what it was - and I`m not going into all ten. Don`t have time. And it was not a miracle or god`s will that what happened to the second plague was how he wanted it.
In any case, your god is not a merciful person. He murders people indiscriminately, take the tsuname, 250,000 men, women and children. Ask why and you are told: "It is god`s will." But no proper explanation. "Why? "you may ask, "Why did he do that, What was the reason?"
Then get the standard answer, "God moves in mysterious ways, his wonders to perform." And that`s that. It is not an answer! It`s a way out. It`s a full-stop. Don`t ask any more questions. Case closed!!
Well! That`s OK then? No explanation?
No because an explanation cannot be given, they are driven by false blind faith, drummed into them since they were three years old.
In my opinion, atheists, non-believers are the intelligent ones.
The average IQ is 100, mine is 149, one degree below genius, two below totally mad.
That will give the believers fodder for their vicious comments!!!

Not at all, and it is not goading. We are using this forum to give straightforward answers to the baseless claims that Christians, and people of other religions, keep foisting on people. The term "preaching to the choir" came about because of the fact that Chrsitians generally just use those claims in their own relatively closed groups, and rarely have anybody else around to refute them.
In this forum, we have a good mixture of atheists and god believers, so you can't just throw out a nonsense claim and expect it to fly on by without objection. If you think that's goading, then you have a different definition of the term than I do. I see the exposing of your baseless claims as a public service, a high charity.
I think it's great that religious superstition is finally meeting the light of reason here in this forum.
BTW, the reason for the abuse statistics is that religious people get overly offended when others don't hold their superstitious beliefs with the same reverence they do. Well, tough nooky. We only give those superstitions the respect they deserve, which isn't much. Reporting us only shows your own insecurity.

the answer should seem obvious. there could be several reasons for this.
1.Christianity is the biggest religion in the whole world, and perhaps the most questioned and controversial. it is obvious why Christianity gets lots of attention!
2. many atheists are former Christians themselves...why would they "goad" any other ramdom religion they are not familiar with???

Dear Denise,
God tells us in Romans 1:19-25, "Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen."
Every single human being knows that there is a God. However, they try to avoid the fact by creating psuedoscience such as evolution. Albert Einstein, one of the most intelligent scientists of the world believed there was a God, but actually laughed at the idea of evolution.

Uh, buddy, Christians "goad" atheists on this website as well.
That's what this freaking place is all about.
You've got:
1) People try to annoy other people
2) People asking jokey or nonsensical questions
3) People asking serious questions
1) and 2) probably make up 95% of what is "asked" here. And I put asked in parenthesis, because schmoes like you, the question asker here, answer your question while asking it. So all you are doing is lecturing to us.

If I'm ever rude to Christians it's only because I consider them to be gullible imbeciles who damage the world by their presence and keep us from fulfilling our potential.
That's not what you wanted to hear though was it. The truth is a *****.
