Ok, here is one for you to "chew" on.

First, if you have read your bible, you will note in the Gospels that we, (the body of Christ, the Church) are to be obedient to the authorities here on earth.

That means, we are to obey the laws, (unless they are clearly a violation of our Christian beliefs). By obedience, that means, strictly obey, do not break the laws or rules.

If you will not be humble and obey the law of man, how then can you be humble and obey the law of God, since God's law is greater than the law of man???

You might not like this too much, but the bible has always been clear that man should not do anything to himself that would effect his mind or body. Still drinking cokes and eating double cheesburgers dont make you high and wont cause you to do things you otherwise would not do.

Secondly, if you are addicted to marijuana, this will eventually lead to more stronger illicit drugs. As for those that say they use if to religious beliefs, you need to dig a little farther and do some research.

As far as I know, there are NO socially acceptable churches in this country that permit marijuana use for religious purposes. If there are any at all, i suspect the IRS has investigated them and would soon shut them down and classify them as a non-religous organization under the US tax code.

In either case, your argument for using this substance is pretty weak. Try to get some help, before you kill yourself (or someone else) because of drug use.

God bless

No. Smoking marijuana is not a 'sin of the soul.' The health laws warn about doing things which might injure the body; but the specific sin of recreational drug use mentioned in the scriptures is of the 'sorcerer' -- which actually should have been loosely translated as 'pharmacist' or more appropriately 'drug dealer' from the original translations.

Now, this being said; violation of civil law is sin according to the teachings of Christ and there are a number of New Testament admonitions against drunkenness intoxication in general.

The Bible forbids partaking of anything which will impair moral judgment or weaken self control for the purposes of personal pleasure.

It's all very general.

If you don't like the "don't harm your body" bit, you might consider that the time you spend pursuing this self-gratifying endeavor might be better spent on a self-improving endeavor or atleast something constructive. Or in other words, if you are a christian, you probably believe that God more or less decides when you live and die; he gives you the time you have on earth. Its probably best if you don't squander the time you have. And just like the cheeseburger thing, you can argue the same thing, we waste time on tv, etc. But at the very least you might choose to eliminate this "time-waster" over others b/c it is harmful to your health whereas others my not be (it has at least two strikes against it, I'm sure we could come up with others - since we've established that its a waste of time, you could also argue that it's a waste of money - 3 strikes). I could go on ...

Mathew 15:11 says:
"Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man."

Genesis 1:29 says:
And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

The Holy Anointing Oil described in Exodus 30:22-25 was created from 500 shekels (about 6kg) of myrrh, half as much (about 3kg) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels (about 3kg) of fragrant cane (kanehbosm, translated as "cannabis"), 500 shekels (about 6kg) of cassia, and a hin (about 4L) of olive oil.

Jesus was annointed "the Christ" with this cannabis containing oil and used it to perform his healing miracles.

Kanehbosm is the Hebrew word for cannabis. The bible was originally written by Jews, in Hebrew.

I don't think it's a sin. Cannabis made Jesus the Christ. God made it and, along with everything else, said it was good.

I think starting wars and pretending to be a good Christian is a sin. Smoking pot is just a way to get closer to God.

Only because there is something in the Bible about "follow the law of the land." But that's probably one of those things that was slipped in during the Middle Ages in order to gain control over the people....

Smoking a plant that god put on the Earth is not a sin. Being an unproductive waste of a life drug addict probably is. So just don't over do it!

I believe it is a sin my friend. I may be wrong. I am wrong a lot. The Greek word that King James translated Witchcraft and Sorcery from is actually the word that means Pharmaceuticals. When the writers spoke against sorcery and witchcraft, they were not referring to aspirins and prescriptions for legitimate illnesses. They were refering to the people that used pharmaceuticals in order to alter peoples's minds. Does marijuana alter your mind? If so than it is a sin to smoke it in recreational purposes.

I would like to think so (even though I'm an ex-smoker from about 30 years ago). Did your (earthly) father or mother ever tell you not to smoke it, or to not get involved in drugs, to be a "good kid" and not get into trouble or break the law?

In the 10 Commandments it says, Honor your father and mother, right? So you would be dishonoring your father and mother. Simply put, yes it's a sin.

i've got no scriptures waiting to instruct, yet interior the bible it says to comprehend the government of the land. So this might recommend do not wreck the regulation. in case you had an basic regulation, shall we are saying in case you're strolling up the line and the regulation reported which you're purely allowed to stroll on the main staggering hand area of that highway, yet you probably did not and you walked up the line on the left hand area you would be breaking the regulation, so in doing so it can be a sin whether you theory that regulation replaced into pointless or not.

I think since it is still "illegal" then it is a sin. One of the commandments says something about obeying the law...so, yeah. It's unfortunate. I personally smoke every day and I don't see a problem with it. It honestly makes me more calm, and loving towards others. Otherwise all I wanna do is gossip! But smoking helps me keep the "live and let live" mind-set and love everyone for whatever they are.

I consider myself a Christian, but I don't go to church because I am open about my pot smoking...I just know how that would go over in all of the churches around my area.

Yes smoking marijuana is a sin in Christianity, God told us to obey the laws of country in which they live, unless those laws conflict with following Him.
