Because they lie, as the Holy Quran says in Chapter 62 Verse 6 which says ,, Say: " O ye Jewry! If you think that ye are friends to Allah,to the exclusion of (other) men, then express your desire for Death, If ye are truthful !".

Having made a idyllic heaven, god then went on to make suicide a sin, just so everyone would have to wait their turn.

I would assume that any tribe that had a really great heaven, but no objection to suicide would die out very quickly.

For a lot of people it is the fear of death that drives them to religion and the hope of an eternal life. I suspect that deep down they know that it is purely wishful thinking, and so still fear death.

I've seen quite a few Christians die in my lifetime. I was there the moment it happened.

And they were frightened... and they were crying.

That's not what one would expect from someone who truly believes he's going to Candyland.

They don't want to die any more than anyone else does. We have a will to live. All living creatures do. And no living creature wants to die. It is the last thing any of us want to do.

Telling yourself imaginary stories about how death is a good thing helps one to not be so afraid of it. But in the end, you can't lie to yourself anymore. When the truth that your existence is about to end comes right in your face, you have to deal with it.

For that reason, I think most atheists are far better equipped to deal with that moment. Having faced what I thought was the end of my life a couple of times... I have to say I handled it pretty well. There wasn't any fear or crying from me...

On some level, regardless of what they profess - I think that many christians have at least a tiny bit of doubt. They don't want to show this to the world, so we have the "your life is a gift from god" rationalization but I don't buy it. Why do they invest so much into fighting for their earthbound life when they are sick? If I TRULY believed, then I would have no fear and I would welcome the afterlife, as advertised.

Because God has blessed us with a great life here on earth; it's up to Him to decide when our time is to join Him. And He has also instructed us to tell those who don't believe, about the Gospel of Jesus, and we've got our work cut out for us in that respect.
