India has many sites... The sites where Buddha was enlightened (the original Bodhi tree is no longer there, but another that was rooted from it still sits at the site) as well as the site of his first teachings at Deer Park & Vulture Peak.
You could also see many other monasteries of Hindu and Buddhist origin that are still in working order.

Places aren't religious people are. The most religious place I can think of is the Vatican / St Peter's Rome but Salisbury Cathedral is better as is Saint Chapelle in Paris. Petra is very nice at sunset (very spiritual) but then so is the Parador at Almagro in Spain. I suppose a Tibetan monastery or the Monastery in northern Iraq (a slightly dangerous adventure) which is supposed to be the oldest monastary in the world. Or The Novodevichy Convent near Moscow. It depends what floats your boat.

Uppsala, Sweden.
It was the greatest religious center in Northern Europe at one time, dedicated to the worship of Odhinn, Thor, and Freyr. There was a huge feast and sacrifice there every nine years, and nine of every beast, including man, were hung from the Great Oak in their honor . . . until the conversion, when some little priest from Rome cut our tree down.
Freyr's burial mound is still there, and the barrows of other great kings. Archealogical excavations are underway, and the next International Saga conference will be held there in '09.

Go see the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey... it is the center of one of the oldest and most religiously diverse places in the world! Before it was Istanbul it was Constantinople... and before that Byzantium. LOADS of religion (mixed) in that place.
