My hair is semi-short, dark brown with red-violet lowlights, and extremely thick. I want to get my hair chemically relaxed. I had my hair colored 2 weeks ago, and I was wondering if it was okay to get my hair relaxed now. And also, how long after relaxing can you color again, and is there a maximum # of times you can color after relaxing?

Thanks & Sorry for all the ?'s!

Yours,

Stephanie

You can now safely relax your hair. Just buy the mild formula relaxer it is for color treated hair. You can re-color your hair 10-12 days after wards.

ok, well first of all- u must wait a while b4 u relax ur hair, especially since u just colored it not too long ago.

a relaxer is the strongest chemical u can put in ur hair and it will fade out ur color drastically so u don't want to do this right away. also u must have a dirty scalp in order to not have any chemical burns while doing ur relaxer. i hope that u are going to a professional to do this...

u can color ur hair about 2 months or so after ur relaxer- just use ammonia free hair color. u don't want to abuse ur hair- relaxed hair is very high maintenance... also, cut ur ends every time u relax ur hair to avoid breakage and split ends.

you have to wait at least a week in between chemically altering your hair in any way. Before you try a relaxer you may want to try cremes such as the John Frieda Frizz-Ease line of products to see if your hair works with these products first because of the damage that two chemical processes can do to your hair you might want to consider that option first. Also you may want to try getting your hair pressed if the first option doesn't work. Although heat isn't that good for your hair either it is a much better option than relaxing it and it can often promote hair growth...if you wanted longer hair.

I would probably ask a professional first of all. I tried to chemically relax my hair, and the results were not good. And even if the box says it's okay if you have colored or permed, you never know...till your hair is literally falling out in hand fulls.
Hope this helps!

Chemically relaxing your hair can be very damaging. I have extremely curly hair and a trip to a GOOD hairdresser will do. I usually go to people who are used to blow drying my type of hair. As far as the coloring I'd say always wait AT LEAST 6 weeks between processes.

Never overprocess your hair. Once it happens you'll have to go almost bald and let it re-grow.

Good luck with your new look.

You should get a thermal straightener, unless you have African hair. The thermal straightener is easier on color. When I did mine, it stripped all the color off and then you cant get your hair colored for about a week. You can color as much as you want after.

Usually, hair stylists don't like to straighten or perm colored hair because it hurts the color. You should talk to your stylist about this and see what she recommends.

Oh, I forgot to mention hair straighteners. You can buy a good one for around $25.
