I don't think "pay" should ever be a reason for looking for another job at least as far as your new employer is concerned....what about stating that you feel that they aren't using you to your potential? or maybe you feel that a career change is in order....
good luck!!

You might keep it confident and professional by suggesting that you have been with the company for X years and need to make a change that will offer fresher challenges and greater rewards. You might add that your time there has been educational and rewarding, but you feel as though you have gone as far as the company can take you.

This approach will give you the appearance that you are interested in growing and not just in your pocket. Keep the emphasis on the positive. You want to grow!!

There are a ton of great alternatives. Don't just you want more money, there is always something more to wanting a new job.

Try these... I am looking for a new job because:
I am looking for more opportunity
My current position offers not potential future growth
My current company will be downsizing soon
It is time for a change and I am extremely interested in your company/industry
I am looking for a more stable or large company environment with more opportunities.

etc. etc.

Good luck!

You don't ever want to bad mouth your former employer or say that you are leaving because of money. My suggestion would be to say that you gained a lot of experience and knowledge at your previous job, but that there was not a lot of room for growth. You want to be a part of a company that you can grow with and that you can learn from. They want to know that you will stick with them and work hard for promotions, not that you will leave them for more money. It takes a lot of money and time to train a new employee and they will see it as a waste. Good Luck!

What ever you do , don't say anything bad about your current/previous company. You could say you would like to get into a larger company, or time for a change.
