The skills involved in flying are something that anyone can master. But that doesn't make anyone a good pilot. Flying is ninety percent mental and attitude. The people that don't make it or end up killing themselves and a bunch of people can manipulate the controls and instruments just fine but they can't do the real head work in the cockpit. Before you climb into that seat you have to have left all of your personal problems in the parking lot. You have to believe that you are the most qualified person to be sitting in that seat and that there is nothing that you cannot handle. Is that an arrogant attitude to have? You bet. But I'd never hire you if you didn't think you should have my job. Here's an old caption from a famous painting that shows a biplane that has crashed into a tree in the middle of an otherwise wide open field:
Aviation in itself is not inherently dangerous. But to and even greater degree than the sea, it is terrible unforgiving of any carelessness, incapacity or neglect.
Good luck in your flying career.

Flight Simulator isn't really a "simulator", it's more of a game.
It is a good way to get farmilliar with aircraft, but the performance/reactions of the aircraft in FSX are not like real life.
It is not a good way to learn how to fly VFR.
It is however in my opinion a great way to learn IFR flight, since that is less looking outside and more relying on instrumentation.
In my opinion, a new student pilot who has used FS, has a lot less of a learning curve to get through than a student that has never used FS.
A real simulator would be a level D simulator which costs around £300 an hour to use and is pretty much exactly the same as flying a real aircraft.

I can't believe all the people are saying "Yes, Flight Simulator helps you to become a real pilot" What a crock!
There is a world of difference between playing a computer game while sitting on the couch in you house, and being responsible for a multi-million dollar aircraft and the lives and safety of 400 plus passengers and fellow crew members.
Get real people!

Have to agree with the others. I have used FS and am about to check out X-Plane. They are fun and can teach you a little about the basics and will help you as a student pilot practicing your nav for cross country's.
They still are a long way from the real thing though. Look into a demo flight at your local airport. You will see the differences. The biggest one being if you make a major mistake with the real thing, there is no reset button!

Get X-Plane, and a good control setup. A friend of mine simulated the entire instrument panel and switchboard of a b-17 in her living room... it was really groovy, but total overkill. Also it was a severe Linux hack on a dedicated machine. Still, you can get a lot of practice with X-Plane. Flying is kind of boring, so just practice landings, take-offs, and controlled turns. Try some aerobatics or you'll be totally bored, but practice the basics, slow coordinated turns and landings. Learn as much as you can about the physics of flight, and as much as you can about instrument layouts and controls which are different for the various types of planes. Start with the small, slow ones, the Cessnas and Pipers. Try to learn the purpose and operation of all the basic control surfaces on aircraft, ailerons, flaps, elevator, rudder, and propeller. Learn about navigation using the old ways, VOR and so on, because GPS can fail. This really won't give you the experience you need, but it will help you when you go to flight school. You will need lots of money. I could only afford to go about half way, and I can't afford to rent planes and stuff to get hours... it's pretty expensive. Good luck!

sounds like somebody else has the itch. initially in case you haven't any longer finished so already take a usual flight or scenic flight so which you know what flying in a small ac is like. i will answer your 2nd question first. Flight simulator can assist you to learn and guard your tool test for tool flying as nicely as familiarity with the gauges themselves yet this is in simple terms 10% of flying once you first initiate out. the different ninety% of the time you should be finding exterior because of the fact a million. it is the place the site visitors is and 2. you will base each flight maneuver on seen cues/sounds collectively as finding up and outdoors. Now the 1st portion of your question is harder the two actually and figuratively. the business aviation industry isn't uncomplicated magnificent now yet there nonetheless are some beneficiant salaries. although you may never make certain what is going to ensue with your interest protection. If my reminiscence serves me wisely, in in simple terms the previous month or so United and Delta have decrease salaries or downgraded captains to diminish fees. Midwest airlines in simple terms laid off i've got self belief 1200 workers and grounded their entire MD fleet. the different massive ingredient as nicely pay is high quality of existence. while you're attracted to having a kinfolk ensure your better half is extremely independant and can take care of you being long gone a great form of time till you will come across a job the place you have a solid time table. you will come across a company interest in case you know the magnificent people and have the magnificent journey point and that they could pay as lots or greater as a worldwide senior widebody captain yet you're on the mercy of your pager and the corporate executives time table. i'm in my mid Nineteen Twenties, have been flying because of the fact sixteen years previous and have been thinking thoroughly distinctive careers exterior flying. while you're pursuing a diploma, i might advise a company or another universal diploma so which you have something to fall lower back on besides on your flight education and certifications. you may think of you know, yet you never know what the destiny holds. stable success to you.

As all the others have said, it's just a game and not a very realistic one at that. The game is "As real as it gets"... "so long as you never do it for real."
Besides, the $3000 you'll have to dump into a brand new cutting edge computer just to turn the thing on could get you 75%+ of the way to a REAL private pilot certificate.

hey, thats nice that u wanna be a pilot, me too. I love all the flight sims. To me, yes, because when youre in ground school and training, you also would need to use simeulaters and FSX is a lesser realistic than the big simulaters but it has most of the components in the real one.

ive used the ms flightsim range of software since 1998. they will teach you tons and tons of the theory but you won't be able to fly a real aircraft without doing the proper training. it's not just a case of learning the physics of flight but there is all kinds of exams
- air law -the highway code for the sky
- meteorology -understanding weather condition
- navigation -not getting lost
- uhf radio -talking to the ground
- and loads of other stuff
ms flight sim is loads of fun though and with the right peripherals gives the best representation of flying on the market.
have fun and keep flying!!
ps visit Innsbruck airport in flight sim - beautiful place to fly light aircraft around!

its a good place to get familiar with all the guages and the terminology and how the plane reacts in real life, most pilots use simulators to refine their skills so its good but dont compare it the real thing.
