Christians I know make the following claims:

God is selfless

God is all knowing

God created everything

God created man so he would have someone to be with {I guess even God can get lonely}

So God knowing that people would cause each other so much pain and agony, choose to create them anyway so he could have someone to be with.

That strikes me as more selfish then selfless. or am I missing some point here.

Your missing the point and twisting it around.

Yes true life has some pain and agony...It also has things that are amazing and a gift (Love, Children, climbing mountains or whatever a person chooses to enjoy)

The point for man is too overcome the bad by focusing on the Good and with God's help that can be achieved. It can be achieved without God as well, but he promises the ride will be much smoother and enjoyable on his side.

God did not create people because He needed someone to be with- He is complete in Himself. He created us to have a relationship with us because He loves us. Selfish? If so would Jesus have voluntarily hung on that cross so that we, the people God created, could be forgiven for OUR FREE CHOICES- for our sin- I don't think so- Hanging on a cross- for our sins- is the most selfless thing anyone could ever do. You are missing the point- God wants to have a relationship- He does not need us at all. If He was selfish- He would never have sent His Son- and sent everyone to hell.

Man is selfish. Man created God. Man cannot create a perfect being because Man is imperfect. Therefore the very idea of God is imperfect and flawed (and yes, selfish).

You were created for His pleasure. God takes pleasure in seeing His children doing good on this earth. God said we are salt and light. God is not selfish, because God is very concerned about us and God loves us very much. God wants us to choose correctly. Hell was built for Satan and his fallen angels and not for man. Mixing with evil spirits as man seems to do when man gets extremely evil is not what God wants for us. God wants the best for His children and therefore He gave us His book the Holy Bible so we can live life and live it more abundantly.

Yes dear. You are trying to put God on the same level as man. This is not possible. God is spirit, not flesh and blood, (even though Jesus was born in Mary).

Remember, God is still God, and is greater than us all. If you still think he is selfish, pray to Him about it. Perhaps He will give you some special insight.

God bless

Scott,God isn't selfish and doesn't need to your dog.God want to teach us every thing in the world is mortal except God.Probably we will lose many things, important things because of obeying God or naturally.Parent,love,money,health,youth... we should learn to be patient and strong. It's difficult when our heart is full of scars,to keep our faith but God will help us.

God made man perfect and with everything he needed, including a partner. Man is the one who chose to break God's law that He had set and then sin started to be passed down from generation to generation. People cause each other pain and don't please God because of that sin.

Let's see here. God created the Earth so that he could have people to worship HIM, and then when they died, if they didn't believe in HIM, then they would go to hell to be tortured forever because they didn't know how awesome HE was, and never understood HIS glory. HE doesn't want anybody who didn't believe in HIM during life to be able to be in paradise after they die.

Yep, seems selfish to me.

no because God already had angels to be with, and since HE IS GOD could have created humans who would not hurt each other...... it is a test
