He had a rabies vaccine last night. He is 19! He seemed fine last night, but today he is walking around gingerly. When I pet his leg he flinches like in pain.

yes, it is normal for a cat to be sore after vaccinations. It is like when a human gets a flu shot. Their arm can be sore for a few days and sometimes people even get bruises from them.

Wow, he's an old cat!

Yes, sometimes there is soreness after a shot. And I daresay he's not going to want that leg handled after getting a needle stuck in it either. But if the soreness continues, call his vet and ask about it.

Good luck!

~ well I haven't been through this with a cat but I have with my husband.. my husband had got the sores from the cast being too tight and not being properly wrapped and from the cast getting wet inside. They ended up having to remove the cast and put him on high dose antibiotics to get rid of the infection. have you looked to see if there is any puss coming out from the wound? if it is yellow and/or green your kitty has a bad infection that NEEDS to be looked at.. I would also take your kitty to another vet.. unless the other vet will see your cat for free as it would be a follow up and this infection could have been cause by the vet wrapping it too tight. best of luck to you and your kitty and Merry Christmas!

Is your leg tender the first few days after you get a shot? Well so is your cats. It is completely normal.

Sometimes they can have reactions. Frequently, they do... especially at that age. Ask the vet if there are any OTC anti-inflammatories you can give him. The vet might be reluctant to do that, though, as your cat is so old and when they're old their kidneys do not filter as well anymore.

Yes, it's completely normal. He should be fine tomorrow if not be sure to contact your vet and see what they recomend. Sometimes they'll recomend OTC benadryl. They'll beable to give you the proper dose if they OK it. Good luck
