I want a tattoo of my sons names, but I want it in arabic. I have got a translation but want to make sure its correct. Can anyone translate the names for me please.

you should have them written in Arabic according to the way you pronounce them,especially for "joseph" because Arabian say it as "yusuf"
joseph: جـوزيـف written as:jozef
james :جـيـمـس written as jems
oliver :اولـيـفـيـر written as oliver
Arabic write what you hear,no excess or silent or doubled letters
But for a tattoo you must have them designed in Arabic calligraphy, in which i can help

Problem with Oliver as there is no "v" in Arabic. Closest is to use the Urdu script that the Pakistani use. That does have a "v" in it.
The sample shown already is the closest you can get I think (although it's kind of Aow-liffer) but you could drop the right-most letter and it would still be pretty close (Ow-liffer)
If you can find an Arabic scholar or calligrapher online then you could maybe get samples of the very ornate scripts used. They would look better as tattoos.

I think Pretty Girl's answer is the closest, with a zayin (i.e. a Z) instead of a sin at the end of 'James'; after all, it is pronounced "Jamez".
However, for 'Oliver', I would have used a ve (i.e. a V) in the place of the fe. A ve is a fe with three dots, instead of one. This letter isn't actually part of the standard Arabic alphabet, but it is used in Moroccan Arabic.
Unfortunately, the keyboard I'm using at the moment isn't configured to produce Arabic letters, so I can access them only through 'Insert' and 'Symbol', which, of course, I can't do while I'm on Yahoo Answers.

I don't know if you want it phonetically, the actual arabic name, or just transliterrated. Anyway, arabically transliterrated, Joseph sounds like Yoosuf, hope it helps.
