God used to change the names of some people for reasons.

Do you think that even our name was choose by god? That the meaning of our name is relevant to us?

Thanks for the answers.

OMG!, only the mothers choose names here, where are the fathers?

What I mean is that every name has a reason... so, if it happens with us, when God changes someone´s name, it was for a reason too.

If you exchange the first letters of my first and last name, it sounds like something that should mean "good joke".

I'll let people draw their own conclusions about how accurate that might be.... =OP

No, my Mom named me. She said an angel gave the name to her, hence I have three biblical names. But if the name is any indication and it were given to me by god in any way, then god must be an atheist and want others to be atheist also. Why else would he equate money changers, blessings, and children of joy with a confirmed atheist? I think it was just wishful thinking on my Mom's part, although by most standards I am definitely 'blessed'.

This is a tricky question. There is this old game from the 15th century. You write down a person's full name on a piece of paper and you find names of animals in their name. The personality of the person is supposed to reflect the animals found in their name.

My actual first name is "Champ", and it was chosen by my Earthly Father. It was relevant to him because he had a brother with the same name who committed suicide a few months before I was born.

God had not the remotest thing to do with my choice of a stage name, which would become my legal name. We have a long-standing arrangement, an agreement if you will, that I do not trouble god and he does not trouble me. I have my little problems, which I'm able to solve, and he has his big ones which he doesn't seem capable of solving--world hunger, poverty, homelessness, corporate greed, AIDS, little men in high places, like Bush, war, genocide, floods, hurricanes, earthquakes, wild fires, rape, murder, child abuse, televangelists, child labor, child soldiers, etc., etc., etc.

Joshua - I have no designs for genocide
Daniel - Sorry, I like meat and wine
Martin - Not sure what that one means, but I figure I must have needed six more letters to be the Antichrist.

Well, I happen to like my name and think it fits me well. The personality traits that are associated with my real name sure do.

But no, I don't believe my name was chosen by god, it was chosen by my mother.

My mother chose my name. Are you saying that god chose it trough her? Wouldn’t that violate free will?

And changing your name when you change religions is a scary idea…that’s what people do when they join cults and go religious hard core.

My actual name means light or illumination. It fits me because most of the time I'm rather up beat. I also know my dad named me after his favorite aunt.

My government name (Troy-foot soldier) reflects things I've done (military, security, martial arts)

My Muslim name (Jihad Saiyfullah-Struggle; Sword of Allah) reflects what I want to be and a reminder that I have to work at what I want to be.
