Because Spanish is a language that is actually used in the world today. It is quickly becoming the world's most common language. Why would you teach a child something he would never use?

What particular native American language did you have in mind? There would be little point, for example, in teaching Sioux in a region where there were no native speakers. Spanish, on the other hand, is the native tongue of over 25 million native born Americans as well as of hundreds of millions around the world. In particular, in an American context, Spanish is just about the most useful language kids can be taught.

If the baby can actually understand English then you can normally sit down and learn from a Spanish course such as Rocket Spanish or Rosetta Stone spanish with them. Children are especially good at learning new languages and as long as you teach them the right stuff, they should pick it up quite easily.

Because spanish is more important to use in todays society. I feel that it would be a benefit for everyone to learn another language and if you live in the US the spanish langauge would probably be the most useful. I think that the reason that they don't speak english well, is by choice. On every TV channel and on the radio, you hear different types of dialects and others countinually use it wrong, so why won't they.

That is where parenting plays a role!

It doesn't really matter WHICH language you teach the kids.

Learning a foreign language will show them how dependent the way we THINK is on which language we speak (think in.)

Understanding this is a good first step in inter-cultural tolerance.

Well because it's one of the growing languages in the world. Almost any place you go, Spanish is spoken and used. Why learn something you won't use as often eh?

Because it will be very useful for them one day and it is easier to learn as a child. Better to teach it to them now than for them to have to learn it when they get older. The idea behind teaching it to children is that they will learn it and as they get older it will become second nature for them to speak it fluently.
