I was dx with Lupus a few weeks ago and have been itching like crazy! Someone told me to rub a cotton ball soaked with Witch Hazel on the itchy skin and it would relive the itch. Has anyone ever heard of this?

yes! Witch Hazel is wonderful. If you look around you might be able to find wipes of it. I haven't heard of it being used for Lupus but I know it helped me with stitches that itched really bad. It also relieves burning. I read on a site that someone with Lupus said it didn't help them, but the reason was b/c the itching felt more like it was under the skin in the nerves. So the witch hazel will probably only help if it is external itching.

Witch Hazel For Itching

the main thing..and most hard to do, is not to scratch the bite, this just irritates the bite area more and causes the ichiness to persist. Also, if you scratch too much, you could scratch your skin open which might become infected. Find some Benadryl cream and put it on the bite, this should help with the ichiness. There are many insect bite creams at walmart, target, wlagreens, just about anywhere that will take care of the itch. The mosquitoe bite itches because a small amount of the mosquitoes saliva penetrates the skin which irritates the cells under your skin. So, don't scratch, and apply some insect bite cream.

I used witchhazel when I had a temporary colostomy. It gave a soothing feeling to the tender area around the stoma. I think it was used more as a cleaning agent as opposed to a itching healer. I suppose it would work well on itching problems, too. It's certainly worth a try. Good luck.

call your doctor, many over the counter products are good for some people but may not be good for people with serious illnesses.
