18. 17 with parental permission.

I think a couple states require 19 (you have to be 19 in Nebraska to legally sign contracts).

17 w. parental permission in most cases. In this day and age this is because some people do manage to graduate high school at a younger age. Plus some people sign up with a delayed entry (with parental permission) before graduating so when they graduate they are good to go.

But that is the thing..... most services will not accept people without a diploma. A GED can work in some cases but some of the services won't accept that. In the ones that do those who do join can find job choices, opportunities and promotion severly limited. Apparently there is some sort of program to "cherry pick" certain GEDs (they get less restrictions) to find those who can show above average intelligence. Say if one scores really high on the ASVAB.

So obviously graduating high school, even if it is by the skin of your teeth with a lousy GPA is the way to go. If you have a way to go there are ROTC programs in most areas or even ROTC where you go just in the summer. It won't cost anything. There are various other things that are available if one signs up delayed before graduating. Whatever the case you get more rank out of the gate when you go in.

Bottom line... stay in school. You did not say how old you are. Even if you are 14 to 17 go talk to a few recruiters. Even those of age don't find out about what is available..... because they did not ask.

17 if you have BOTH blood parents approval. Even if your Dad is not really in the picture he still needs to sign off on you joining the military unless your mother can prove he abandoned you. 18 if you want to do it without permission form parents.

Yeah, these guys are all right. 17 with PC, 18 without. The only thing I want to add is that the Marines don't usually accept GED's with maybe a few exceptions. You need that diploma.

You have to be 18 to be sent to basic training, although they have something called the delayed enlistment program where you can join at age 16.
