This is a really personal preference. Obviously, there are advantages to each. It all depends on so many factors- what kind of paintings you want to make, how long it takes to make them (oil stays workable much longer) how you paint (you can't, for example, paint wet into wet with acrylic.) It also matter where you paint- if you don't have a separate studio space, it can be annoying (and dangerous) to live and eat in the same space as oil paint fumes and residue.
You really should try both and see which you prefer. I am a die-hard oil painter, but I can see some (few) advantages to acrylic. It's really up to you.

Well first, excuse my english... it's not my first language. You should try everything you can try... and decide what fits you more. Remember that if you are getting started in painting, drawing, sculpting, printmaking or whatever, there are disiplines the require less steps and that are less technical. Simpler methods can help you get starting with more confidence and coul lead the way to more complicadet stuff. But also there is a few realy important things most of the artist do not conciderate... First the disponibility of the products in the area where you live, the cost, if there are not many options, consider buying in the internet and if it's cost efective. Now, there is one realy important thing you shoul consider, and that is weather conditions where you live. Remember not all paper, fabrics, inks, pigments, and other materials react as the should depending in the geografic position you are located. Some are fabricated in a very contrasting enviroment when compare with yours...
Hope I can help you.
