You need to start giving her a spoon at this age. She will be very messy and she will probably ditch the spoon and use her fingers b/c she's better at it, but this is the age when they start using a spoon. Later, you can introduce a toddler fork. Usually, by the time they are 3 they are pretty proficient at feeding themselves w/ a fork. As far as the knife goes, my daughter is 4 1/2 and we still cut up her food. She can use a sandwich spreader to make a sandwich and she can cut soft foods w/ a plastic knife, but I still don't feel comfortable giving her a knife and letting her have at it.
Give her the spoon and encourage her. She'll get the hang of it.
Good luck!

She should start to be able to use a spoon. After that comes the fork. She should not be given a knife until she is 5 or 6.

I started giving my first child a spoon before she was a year old (because according to my mother we were all eating with a spoon before we were a year) Well, she had no desire to use a spoon and quite happily ate all sorts of things with her fingers. Eventually at about 21 months she just picked up the spoon and started using it properly. My second child didn't get a spoon as young and he is now 17 months and can use a spoon pretty well, although I still help to save time as much as anything. Like everything else, they all do things at their own time. My daughter is nearly 3 and I've just started to give her a knife (a very blunt child size one) so she can butter her toast by herself which she loves to do!

If your daughter is already feeding her self with her fingers, i would give her a spoon and fork now. It doesn't matter if she doesn't use them to start With she will in time when she sees wot u are doing wi them. I have twins at 2 and a half, they have been using them for ages now and they can use them really well. It makes them more independent.

My son was eating with a fork at 1 year old. You have to give her the spoon or fork. Stay on her too. Eat with her and give her the utensil when she starts to use her hands.

give her a spoon to feed herself with, it will be messy but the more she practices the faster she'll learn.
introduce a fork also but keep away from knifes for another 3-4 years.

this is a good age to give her a fork/spoon to feed herself with. it will start off very messy, but that's half the fun!! My girls had knives and forks from about this age and could feed themselves completely without too much mess within a few months or so. just don't give her soup!!!

It takes a while using the utensils for them to get it right. But practice makes perfect. Try giving her a spoon to use when she eats. That way she can try it out and if she puts it down to eat with her hands after a while just keep trying meal after meal. I gave my son a spoon to experiment with at around 8 months. There is no harm in it, just make sure they arent sticking it down thier throat and choking themselves!
