Just as there are different degrees of righteousness on the earth, there are kingdoms of differing glory in the next life:
1) the celestial kingdom is the highest, the Glory of the Sun
2) terrestrial is next, the Glory of the moon
3) telestial is last, the Glory of the stars
If we are worthy, we can be placed into one of those Kingdoms of God. God himself is in the Celestial Kingdom, which is eternal happiness.
WHO WILL INHERIT TELESTIAL GLORY? (D&C 76:81–83, 98–103)
Those who:
a. Reject the gospel (D&C 76:82, 101).
b. Reject the testimony of Jesus (D&C 76:82–83, 101).
c. Are liars, sorcerers, adulterers, and whoremongers (D&C 76:103).
---
WHO WILL INHERIT TERRESTRIAL GLORY? (D&C 76:71–80)
Those who:
a. Reject the gospel in this life but receive it in the spirit world (D&C 76:71–74).
b. Are honorable but are blinded by the craftiness of men (D&C 76:75).
c. Are not valiant in the testimony of Jesus (D&C 76:79).
---
HOW CAN WE INHERIT CELESTIAL GLORY? (D&C 76:50–70)
We MUST:
a. Receive the testimony of Jesus (D&C 76:51).
b. Be baptized by one with priesthood authority (D&C 76:51).
c. Keep the commandments (D&C 76:52).
d. Receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (D&C 76:52–53).
e. Overcome the world by faith (D&C 76:53).
f. Be made perfect through the Atonement of Jesus Christ (D&C 76:69).
WHO ELSE WILL INHERIT CELESTIAL GLORY? (D&C 137:7–10)
Those who:
g. Die without a knowledge of the gospel but “would have received it with all their hearts” (D&C 137:7–9).
And those who:
h. “Die before they arrive at the years of accountability” (D&C 137:10).

There are three different degrees of heaven. The Celestial Kingdom, the Terestrial Kingdom, and the Telestial Kingdom. It only makes sense that there are different degrees. God IS a loving God and a merciful one. Everyone will be rewarded according to their works, faith, choices, etc. Just having a heaven and a hell sounds a little unmerciful don't you think? If that were true, you wouldn't want some minor sins keeping you from entering into heaven. There ARE three different degrees of glory.

Indeed everyone will get reworded by their fruits (some will be reworded bigger than others for some people work harder than others in God's Kingdom, but when the Bible talks about heaven it is referring 3 different heavens not the same one. Heaven (which is referred to as the first heaven) is the sky God created in the beginning of creation. Heaven (which is the second heaven) is outer-space where the the sun, moon, and stars are at. and Heaven (which is the third Heaven) is where God all mighty is at and that is where we will be for eternity.
remember the bible speaks that we will be reworded with the crown of life (and different crowns) and that each one would have a different mansion that will be for our hard work on earth. the harder we work the bigger our mansion and the more Perls and dimons (on our crown) and crowns we will have.
Think about it - this is why it states "but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another"
keep on reading the Bible, ask God for gulden's and he will show you the way.
God Bless

When Christ spoke, he spoke in parables; ways that the people could understand and compare. If you're in tune with the Holy Spirit and have the desire to understand the scriptures; you will know those things Christ speaks.
Our Heavenly Father loves us all and wants us to succeed in perfection. But, as humans NO one is perfect, but we can strive to do and be as Christ. So, to me, my personal opinion is; there are many people who through their own personal trials are at different spiritual levels. Our Heavenly Father loves ALL Man Kind and only he knows our heart and desires. So, these verses makes complete sense. Why not have different degrees of heaven? We all have different levels of spirituality. Search the scriptures and you will read several parables of spiritual goodness. Why dwell on Hell and the negative, when majority of the human race is good. Let Heavenly Father judge us and those who he will be cast out. Let us all strive to do our best and be as Christ. If each and every person would take the time to pray each day, can you imagine how that will change our world?
I truly believe these verses describe the three degrees of Heaven. How do I know, I prayed and studied it out, and through the Holy Spirit it testified to me. If you don't agree, that's okay, but before you judge me or others, try praying about it.
Thank you,

Well, as a fellow Mormon, i share the same beliefs with you, so yes I believe in the 3 degrees of glory, as well as the 3 separate parts of the Celestial Kingdom, with the highest being where God lives. This was on argument I had with a born again friend of mine, whose Bible (don't remember which translation, but not the KJV) had "translated it better", yet it meant something completely different.

There is one main stream religion that really focuses on this. The LDS Church does believe that based on this passage that there are 3 levels of Heaven. The Celestial, the Terrestrial, and the Tellestrial(sp) kingdoms. This makes a lot of sense if you look at the differnce in good people on the earth.
I had a neighbor that was a good neighbor, husband, father, believed in God and salvation but never went to church.
I have a neighbor now that goes to church and believes but he also drinks a little and raises his voice a lot.
I believe that both would go to heaven but would they be rewarded with the same level of glory? Maybe, maybe not.
It makes sense to me that there we be different degrees of glory.

Yes, that is exactly what it means. There is not just a heaven and a hell. God is not so cruel as to send a good man that didn't repent of some minor sins into a place where murderers and rapists go.
This is why God (according to Mormons) is so loving.

I would display this scripture I found in the Bible about Joseph Smith digging up plates, etc... but my mom says that would make the Anti-Mormons start bashing, so I don't mention Mormon-explaining Bible scriptures because I don't like bashing, I only mention funny scriptures, or the articles of faith if I have to.

Here the analogy involves inanimate objects of creation: the sun, moon and stars with their differing splendor and the earthly bodies (possibly the great mountains, canyons and seas) with their splendor. In it all. god can take similar physical materials and organize it differently to accomplish his purpose.
In applying these analogies, the apostle says that in the case of the resurrection of the dead God will take a perishable, dishonorable, weak (and sinful) body- "a natural body" characterized by sin-and in the resurrection make it an imperishable, glorious, powerful, powerful body, fit to live eternally with God. There is continuity, but there is also change.
