How much do airlines usually charge to cancel? The flight is not until September. Is that enough time to get a refund?

Nope, unless you JUST purchased it, they may have a courtesy cancel, other than that you can't avoid the cancellation fees.

To my knowledge Jet Blue does not offer refundable fares. Meaning if you cancel a Jet Blue flight, you cannot get any money back.

If you do cancel your Jet Blue flight, you will have a credit on Jet Blue, for the amount of your ticket, for one year.

When you do decide to re-use your ticket, at that time Jet Blue will charge a $30 penalty.

CANCELLATIONS

TICKET IS NON-REFUNDABLE.
NOTE -
RESERVATIONS CANCELLED PRIOR TO SCHEDULED DEPARTURE MAY BE APPLIED TO PURCHASE OF FUTURE TRAVEL FOR A 30.00 CHANGE FEE TO BE APPLIED AT THE TIME OF THE NEW BOOKING.
NEW BOOKING MUST BE MADE WITHIN ONE YEAR OF THE ORIGINAL TRAVEL DATE OF THE CANCELLED ININERARY.
