It depends on what your trying to do. If your trying to tone then low weights (10-15lbs) at high reps (10-15 reps at about 3-5 sets)

curls are great for you arms. Use smaller weights 3-5 pounds to start and add a few pounds each week. remember repitition is what builds and tones muscle, not lifting heavy weights a few times. Work on reps of 10, rest a minute or two, the do another rep. 3 times a week minimum and in 6 weeks you will have a noticeable difference.

If you have fat arms get a speed bag (punching). That is the only thing I found to make arms thinner. Weights help tone, but they don't seem to reduce the fat for me.

Play basketball or tenniqoite, wash clothes and swipe the floor with your hands.
