That people will believe it is literally true, suspending common sense and logic in favor of religious dogma.

El Chistoso

For one thing it shows us how much God hates sin.

Also it left evidence to that people today can scientifically know that the Bible is true (and there fore that God is real).

The Bible says that man and dinosaurs lived together (the word dinosaur was not made up until 1884 - the Bible calls them Leviathan, Behemoth and dragons). There are several places around the world were there are human and dinosaur footprints in the same rock. Do a web search with the key words "human dinosaur footprints" for more info.

Also the Bible says that the earth had an ice shield over our atmosphere and it collapsed during the flood. Ice at -300 F has a magnetic property. This caused the ice to be drawn to the earth's magnetic poles. That is why the evidence of the ice age is centered on the magnetic poles and not the axis.

Also woolly mammoths have been found frozen to the core with out rotting. Even at -100 F a mammoth would have started to rot on the inside.

Also there are palm trees frozen in ice in Antarctica, if Antarctica had drifted there over millions of years the palm trees would have died and rotted before they were covered in ice (they still have their leaves on).

And many other pieces of evidence.......

1. always travel in pairs
2. have a plan before the need arises (Noah built the ark before it started to rain)
3. common people do uncommon things (professionals built the Titanic, a layman the Ark)
4. Be nice to you family, you never know how long you'll be stuck with them
5. Choose your spouse carefully, you may be called upon to repopulate the world with him/her
6. Learning to swim is not a sure guarantee you'll be saved.

Seriously:
Trust in God, believe what he tells you will come true even though it sounds impossible as he can do it.
Stay moral, avoid idolitry, avoid immorality, worship God and God alone.
GET ON THE BOAT: Method of being saved. Back then it was an ark, today it is calling upon the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation and believing in Him.

The story of the flood was God's reluctant answer to a world that had lost it's way, and had worshipped false gods, and had turned to perversity.
The Creator thought very carefully about the best way to kill those who are sinners, without destroying the whole of creation.
It is also the story about redemption, because a small number of good and godly people were saved.

It shows that even when he's thinking about restoring his creation to the pristine condition, he was thinking ahead to when the animals would need to return, and thus he saved enough to repopulate the earth.

Not sure which significance you would like to know. Noah and his family were the only faithful people on the earth. Society, much like today had taken a very dark turn, this was significant because of the extreme ages of people they had not forgotten about God, they were ignoring Him.

Oh, and the other significant piece of information, it explains why we find so many fossils in layers of dirt and mud across the earth and why so many strata are out of place or missing.

If you really would like the answer to that question, read the following article.

One of the subheadings discusses the significance of the flood account for us today.

It's significant because God threw a hissy fit and murdered the entire world because he saw man was "evil in his heart"; then decided that all was forgiven and that man couldn't be blamed for his actions, for exactly the same reason....

I could point to a few things.

One of those is that God has a time when He calls an end to things. He only tolerates the way things are for a time.

Another is that He saves a remnant of people. There ae people that He wants. There are people who He doesn't want. The one's He wants, He makes Himself apparent to. Those who He doesn't want He allows to go whichever way they want to go.

Yet another is that He gets the message out, no matter how unbelievable, and those that trust Him by responding to the message are those that make it out of the trouble.

All through time God picks people who trust Him. He decides who they are. The one's who trust Him are the one's that are blessed by Him.

According to Ea, the God that brought the rains, it was because all the Gods were pissed at their creation.
