I believe a definition is in order at the outset: Soul: is mind, will and emotions:Brain: is the earthly conduit for the Soul to express itself. Spirit: is the "spiritual heart" or the real you that communicates with God upon regeneration by the Spirit of God.

That being said, the Soul is in subjection to the person, and may "evolve" or "de-evolve" into where ever or whom-ever the owner leads.

Firstly, let us be sure that maturing of the physical body does NOT denote a maturing of the soul. Let me elaborate... when we first enter this physical world, via birth, both physical body and soul are "immature". Degenerating diseases aside, with the passing of "time", the physical undergoes change; it "matures", it goes through a growth stage, puberty, perhaps a growth spurt, hormonal changes etc. until it peaks before it begins its downhill phase towards expiration (death). This is pretty obvious as it can be seen. And i mean that in the litteral sense. The progression (and degression) of the physical body is well understood, researched and documented as it is something that can be seen with our own eyes and can be studied under a microscope.

However, what about the soul? Does the passing of "time" do the same thing to the soul as it does to the physical? Does the soul automatically progress through stages with "ageing" until it reaches enlightenment? Well, the short answer to this is "No".
"Time" plays no part in the progression of the soul. Time is just a measurement that uses planetary movement as a frame of reference for our daily activities. And it has no direct affect on our souls. It is only our physical bodies that experience the light of the sun or the darkness of night. So even though the state of the physical body changes with the passing of time the soul can easily remain unchanged.

So, if the soul does not progress on its own then the progression or change must be a concious one. But how do we conciously make this change? And how do we recognise how far we have progressed? Let's start by investigating the easier of the two; how to recognise if a soul has progressed.

If we just remind ourselves that the physical actions are a result or manifestation of our spiritual side. Then we only need to look at the way children behave to see a manifestation of an undisciplined soul. At an early physical age, the soul has not yet learnt any self-restraint; restraint of the soul's emotions or desires so the soul is very animalistic. And because there is no self-restraint the whims of the soul are all just "poured out" (manifest) into the physical realm.

So by looking at a child's behaviour/actions we can see just how animalistic the soul is at the outset. And by comparing our own behaviour against that of a child's it becomes quite obvious which souls have progressed and which ones are still in the animalistic state that they were in when they first entered this physical world.

Soul music has definitely evolved....

Okay, seriously; I don't personally have a belief in after-death consciousness, although I have entertained the idea of a possible group consciousness--not a deity--that perhaps people rejoin at death. This is dangerously close to a religious belief, so it is more something that I contemplate, rather than endorse.

I think that if I had ever something like a near-death experience, or a visit from a deceased relative, I might have a different point of view. I haven't, however, and don't expect to. For the record, my mum has said she has been visited several times by my deceased brother.

No the soul, spirit, being, you (all the same concept) does not "evolve" like some genetic material, but it definitely
can and does deteriorate and become less than it's original native state of being during the activity of living, operating in and animating the material universe.

This deterioration can be reversed and when it is what is regained is "native state".

So it's more like a "decaying" than "evolving".

Individuals do not evolve, only populations do. Without being able to identify and or prove what a soul is or whether or not it exists, there isn't any data to base a hypothesis of evolving souls on. The entire subject is conjecture.

Yes, the evolution of the "soul" is All you do in any "life" you live. This is one of many purposes in consciousness; further, Consider the "soul" as you say, is merly a term to describe your "personality, absent a body"; it's You!

Your "soul has No Detachment from the "self" as it is you in personality.

Consider that in "evolution" of your consciousness as :" there are Countless ever expanding realms of higher learning "above" the one you enter upon physical "death" (re-birth) in this Earth.

In short, you can never reach an "end" in this process...

For those I see whom demand "proof"; I would offer the attestments of countless persons whom have had a "Near Death Experience" and in this is the evidence they seek. One can dismiss Everything said by each witness, but in doing so dismiss Reason. The testimony regardind the NDE is overwhelming and Highly corroborating.

the soul devolved. The original gods of the cultures were the ones who taught spiritual knowledge to become the gods which is physical and spiritual perfection. Christianity was a reaction to the original Pagan religions, labeled as "Satanism" meaning "enemy/adversary" in Hebrew. If you read through the information contained within this website, we prove this. Christianity was invented to remove spiritual and occult knowledge (the powers of the mind) from the populace and place this power in the hands of a "chosen" few to the detriment of all humanity. The powers of the mind and soul are very real. People who are unaware of or who do not believe in these powers are easy to control and manipulate by those who are skilled in using these energies. The Original Gods [Demons] were unjustly labeled as monsters and branded as "evil" to keep humanity from spiritual knowledge. Because of this, the human race has drastically degenerated both spiritually and intellectually. We have found Satanism is the original religion of humanity. We have done our research. Satanism is based upon the ancient religions that predated Judaism and Christianity from hundreds to thousands of years. We practice power meditation to advance spiritually and to elevate ourselves. Power meditation is as essential for the human soul as food is essential for the human body. The serpent, a symbol of Satan represents the firey kundalini force coiled at the base of the spine, which upon ascending, transforms the human mind and soul to a much higher level of understanding and ability. This is the true meaning of "Raising the Devil." The Serpent symbol of Satan also represents the DNA helix of life.

Don't know about souls, but the mind certainly can. Perhaps that's what many people call their "soul" anyway. It's all we've got, I reckon, and marvelous enough - but it requires some effort to nurture, which most people largely neglect (as we see from the state of the world).

Of course every one had monkey souls before they evolved into human souls. Many of our souls are still in the evolutionary process. Some of us still have tails. If you die while your soul still has a tail you are screwed. You will just be sent to monkey Heaven. It's a little better than Hell. At least you get peanuts in monkey Heaven.

What exactly do you think a soul is? What properties does it have? What part of 'you' resides in the soul?

If it's postulated that consciousness, or awareness, or sense of self resides in the soul, it's difficult to see how this can be reconciled with the complete oblivion which accompanies general anaesthesia. How could a straightforward chemical, injected into the bloodstream, anaesthetise a soul so that it effectively ceases to exist during this time? If consciousness, in the form of a soul, were some kind of supernatural faculty, it would seem implausible that it could be completely disabled by a chemical.

How about some of the other things which we regard as essential parts of what makes a person what they are? How about love, compassion, reason, empathy, memory, conscious thought, character, 'spirituality' and so on? Well, there is really no plausible doubt that all these things are properties of the physical brain - We can alter all of these properties very simply with alcohol or other drugs, and observe how they change in people who have suffered significant brain damage. Previously placid people become uncontrollably violent, intelligent people become imbeciles, and so on. Stimulate the brain artificially, and the subject reports corresponding mental activity, e.g. 'religious experiences'. We can see from brain research that all these things - thought, emotion, sensation, character traits and so on - are correlated with activity in the brain, and some things can be identified with specific areas of the brain.

So, if all these faculties and characteristics of what we regard as the 'person' reside in the physical brain, as seems to be undeniably the case, and they all cease when the person dies, then what is left to be attributed to a 'soul'? As far as I can ascertain: Nothing. If there is no part of us that can continue after death, then there is no 'afterlife'... and if there is no afterlife, then most of religion is null and void.
