I still have mine from when I was a kid. My wife used to shoot trap with it, (think H & R topper jr, single shot) and would hit the clays but not always break them. You could actually see the dust off the clay when the pellets would strike. If she got on it quick and shot it at releatvily close range she could break them.
The .410 is often considered an expert's gun in that it takes more skill to hunt with. Your shot pattern is much smaller and the range is much less compared to the 12 gauge.
I have shot rabits and squirrels with mine . Just pick the right shot size, and limit your shots. With only one round you have to be dead on, because there is not much time for make up shots.

If you fish, it will make a good fishing gun for killing snakes.
Otherwise, it is pretty worthless.
Some one brought up the myth that the .410 is a good beginner shotgun. I say BULL!
In the hands of an expert shotgunner, a .410 is fine for busting clay birds at a skeet range. But the 1/2 oz. shot load is not very good for teaching a beginner. In fact, I blame an old .410 shotgun with my lack of enthusiasm for shotguns.
A 20 or 28 gauge shotgun is far better to teach a beginner the fine points of shotgunning.

I first used a .410 many many years ago. They have low recoil and are fantastic for learning how to use a shotgun. I wouldn't hesitate to get out my old .410 double bbl and bust some quail or grouse. With slugs it is OK for very close work on medium sized game ( a doe ) While shells are pricey, They are still a heck of a lot of fun, and every one of my kids and now my grand kids get a few lessons on the .410

is it a 2 3/4 or 3 inch shot model? If it is 2/34 then just use it for a doorstop or boat anchor or bat or something.
If it is 3 in shotshell then it is mucho fun to use slugs instead of shot and shoot it rifle style. I have a youth model that shoots 3in shells and is AMAZINGLY accurate within 20 yards. Fantastic for legal squirrel hunting, raccoons, opossum, crow, rabbit, marmots, beaver, ferel pigs, etc. Also works really great for when the neighbors cat wont stay off your car ( I modify the shells to shoot rice and salt rock just for those moments).

You can use it for many things. I use mine for taking out rattlesnakes, pest rodents, and pest birds. It is also a nice weapon to teach younger, and new shooters how to be safe. I imagine it is probably a single shot, so it is relatively easy to operate. Thanks for sharing your bias tneclectic. Its because of your kind I enjoy the one gun a month law. I celebrate it by buying one gun every month. I have so many now that I can't keep up with all of them. And guess what, none of them have ever broken themselves out of the safe and hurt anyone. Go figure? Maybe they are defective.

Either use it as an inopperable collectors item or make it into scrap. There are too many guns and we need to get rid of them.
