Mine does the same thing and it annoys me to no end. I think he just wants attention. I'm not sure of any way to stop him from meowing, except maybe shutting him into the room where you keep his food/ litter box. Another alternative is sleeping with ear plugs. That's what I've done and it works really well.

i have a cat too ,and he did the same thing. i know why. ok so he probably just wants to be loved, played with, and wants attention.give your cat more love and attention during the day, then he won't be looking for it in the morning and meowing. also try to get him to go to sleep the time you and your family do, that way he won't be up when everyone is asleep. make sure he doesn't have any health problems because that may also be why he is meowing. if you think he does, take him to a vet immediately! GOOD LUCK!!

I seriously think it is because they are spiteful! One of mine will come and meow in my face every morning at around 4.30am. I f I do not wake up and take notice of her, she wiggles her whiskers over my face and nose until I do. They also have enough food and water, and have access to their play area outside, with clean sand. For some reason, when she is awake, she expects me to be as well. As soon as I put the light on, and sit up, she is quite happy, gives a little "chrrrp", and leaves again. As I said, Spiteful! But we love her anyway, and I guess it is just part of her personality. The others don't do it.

He sounds bored. Is he nuetered or spayed? If not they will meow you to death until you finally let them out. Try playing with him real good before bed to burn off some energy. Be consistent. Spend avbout 15 - 20 minutes having him chase something like a string or whatever. He'll be burned out and should sleep well afterwards. At least unitl 8 or so.. Good Luck.

Animals definitely get bored and lonely. :)
You may be able to try to train him to get up a little later by ignoring his meows until 7am or 8am when you get up for work. Then at the time give him lots of attention and love (maybe even a treat)
Your cat might be able eventually to wait until that time if he know that you will pay attention to him only then.

I have two kittens and they do the same thing. At 5 am the sun starts to come up and animals have a circadian rhythym. My cats sleep with me till they get up then i take them downstairs feed them and lock them in the bathroom. Now i sleep till 7-8 and then play with them. I do find that the more i play with them at night, the longer they sleep, but I can't get them to sleep past 6am, even with blackout curtians. So tire them out, and when they get up put them somewhere else or at least feed them. GOOD LUCK!

My cat Peaches does the same thing. Mostly on the weekends and if my husband is out of town. I believe that it is the sunrise. If the sun is up he thinks that I should get up. I think that it is really cute on the weekends, when I pick him up and set him outside the bedroom door!

Is he neutered? If not get him fixed. My cat used to meow all night and I got him fixed and that helped the problem.
Does he have any cat companions? If not maybe he wants someone to play with at night.
