You have 8 minutes till the light goes out and less than a hour before the shock wave hits the planet and makes it explode!

What will you do?

How many Atheist will rethink their lives?

How many pagans will remain firm?

If it happened today I'd hug my family till the end!

8 minutes? Love, if the sun explodes you'll be scorched the second after the sun is visible to you. Right away if this happens during the day.

Second; the sun implodes - it can't explode (where would it get the extra energy?) and before it does that, it slowly expands - and by the time that happens, we won't be on this planet anymore. And when that happens, the Earth won't explode with it, it will just be scorched and partly orbit inside the sun. Sounds like fun, eh?

By the time that happens, I'll be merrily traveling around the Universe in my very own TARDIS.

I see physics is not your strong suit... but suppose it were possible for things to happen as you say. Since there's no way to actually time when 'the lights go out' or when the shockwave hits the planet, I'll probably be like most of the earth and wonder what the heck is happening. Then I'd call my wife and make sure she's okay, ask her if she heard anything on the news, and if I found out the sun exploded, well, I'd drive home and lock the doors.

No point in becoming religious now, the solar system is going away and there's no escape. I'd just enjoy the time I have left. There is no afterlife, so what better way is there to go than with the ones you love?

As an atheist i would remain completely firm because the bible states that jeseus will ride down from the heavens, rule for a thousand years and then the end of the world will come.
If the sun exploded i would know that the bible is nonsense. So the question is, how many christians will be pissed that they have wasted their lives following a non-existant religion?

Sorry you messed up. The sun didn't explode I'm answering your message 11 minutes after you posted it. The sun is out bright and it's hot here in the south.

You mean stand firm against an explosion? Or are you assuming that it would make me change my beliefs? If the latter hate to disappoint but I don't bend to fear mongers.

As to what I'd do... I would let all my family know I love them.

if the sun exploded, we would be dead quicker than 8 minutes the light would take 8 minutes to go out if the fusion-able no not fission, fusion material stopped reacting in th sun but thats just because of the shear distance it has to cover to earth, travelling at some 299,792,458m/s pretty fast so a long way indeed, if it expoleded how ever, it would most likely throw us off orbit killing us very quickly, and no i wouldn't convert and start praying, because i couldn't do anything doing that, i would aim to try something possitive

If it happened *right* now, and I knew I had 8 minutes/an hour?

::shrugs:: Well, 8 minutes should be enough for me to get over to the pizzeria and grab a few slices. No need to face the end of the world on an empty stomach.

I'd lean back and calmly relieve some 'tension'.

However, if the sun just exploded, as you point out, we wouldn't know about it for eight minutes. Even if we had a device at the sun to detect it, the signal it would send us would take the same eight minutes to reach us to warn us.

If the sun ever just flat out explodes... we're screwed and won't know it until it's too late.

And this is about as likely as your religion being correct.

I would rethink my life. I would think:
Damn I wish I had not saved all that money now.

And
I wish it was going to be longer.

As for Finding God, there are so many out there, all with equal supporting evidence (ie none) which one am I supposed to find?

Why do you need the sun to explode to hug your family?

I will go to the local brew pub and have a few. I will not rethink my life.
