It would seem people who would want you to be tolerent of their ideas would be tolerent of your ideas as well, but thats not the case. The word bigot means someone who has strong opinions on politics religion and ethnicity.
although I don't have a racial bone in my body and love all races I must admit I do have strong opinions on politics and religion as apparantly everyone else in this answers group so I guess we are all 2/3 bigots. My last question was pertanent to the heart of religion. some answered with quotes like love thy neigbor which has nothing to do with the question. Also have you noticed how top contributors in religion avoid answering unpopular serious questions that may cost them support?

I'm going to address the highlighted portion of your question, and may touch on one or more others.

Tolerance has become code for "surrender". What exactly is it that one is surrendering? A mere look at the religious and political landscape in this country -and other countries as well- reveals that traditional beliefs and values are under constant assault in the media, the courts, our public schools, and even here in this public website. If you espouse beliefs in the Christian God and His divinely inspired word, you are seen as a bigot, a homophobe, and, in some larger and as of yet unexplained way,an enemy of the state.
Because of the supercharged politically correct atmosphere, any dissent spoken against the popular vernacular is seen as "hateful" and "disdainful" by those herd members who prefer to avoid that pesky little aspect of our nature called a "conscience". Where there is no room for dissent, there is no mistake at all that freedom of speech is an illusion, and those who dare pursue it will do so at their own peril.
Then there is me. It will take a bullet finding me to silence me. There is no man or woman on the face of this earth who will ever produce any compelling argument that will ever cause me to compromise my freedom of speech in favor of their political correctness BS. It is impossible. There is no one that engaging, that intelligent, that compelling to ever take on such a massive challenge. I have yet to meet that person. In fact, I no longer look for him or her. Satan himself tried and has failed miserably. How is it possible for any human to succeed where he has failed?

As for "Top Contributor" status, that is largely a measure of how much time someone has to kill. It certainly isn't a measure of the relative worth of what they're "contributing". If logic and relative value were the top two criteria for attaining that title, how many of them do you think would have ever made it that far? From what I've seen, not too many.

I think there must be a line drawn.

As Mr Garrison put it - there is a difference between tolerance and acceptance.

Tolerant means you can live side by side with a person even though you do not accept their beliefs or views, like being tolerant of a crying baby on a plane - you don't like it but you tolerate it.

Acceptance is accepting the viewpoint of something without questioning it - blind faith. It is wrong because it goes against what mankind has worked for since the dawn of civilisation. If everything is acceptable what is right and what is wrong? Life would have no meaning and science will not exist.

So it is not wrong to criticise, object, debate against, disagree for that is tolerance. You may disagree but if the person does not agree no matter what then you just have to tolerate it.

This is the problem I find with fundamentalism - there is an acceptance of the truth, no tolerance of other viewpoints, no questioning of the truth, or what is right or wrong - just blind faith.

To not look at other points of view is detrimental to the progress of mankind.

Well, You have not lost your freedom of speech.
In fact I have not stopped you from airing your bigoted opinion about my way of life and others who rely on Scripture.
You are able to say and ridicule and demean me and the things that I hold dear. Does that bother me?.......it does not matter if that bothers me.......I am tolerating your opinions right now......and without malice........and with respect for you.....I do know however, that if you spent some time with some of these people you may find that you too just may end up loving your neighbor as well....
In many of the ridiculous (opinion)questions that arise here
I find humor and an ability to laugh at myself while still holding to my beliefs.........occasionally I even get another perspective on some things....(which I enjoy)
Also, top contributors dont have a life....theyre just gettin' points!(oops!bigotry)
I guess you're right my friend!LOL!=)

Tollerance? I do not think or believe that this has anything to do with Religion/Christianity.

Freedom of Speech - I think has gone too far - When it purposely hurts others - That IS Wrong!

I try to live my life as a Christian - I constantly ask (in Prayer) Lord, what am I to do with - what ever I am facing at that moment!

I guess some of the people who read these blogs that I have writen might call me a bigot - I DEARLY HATE THAT! My husband is Bi-Racial! Black and Puerto Rican! Know one knows what he is until they ask! I am physically disabled in a wheelchair! We get all kinds of comments put at us - not all plesent! I just go on - Mark does too! We don't let 'that' get to us! I don't think that I have a bigot cell in my body - I HATE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THAT - IT'S DEAD WRONG!

People are people - God Will judge us ALL the exact same - No Matter our Station in Life! That, to me - makes us ALL completely EQUAL!!!

What I can not accept is people of SIN! That does include - Druggies, 'Alchies', Molesters, Abusers, Adulterers, lyers, Theives, and homo's! I know that this is a 'hot' button - tough - it is spoken of throughout the Bible (I use KJV) - Old and New Testement! None of these will inherit the Kingdom of God!

Not my words but, GOD'S Word! Not up to me - but, upto Him! I have NO problem with Anything of GOD! I do not use His Word to 'work' 'my' way or for what I want - the Bible says what it says VERY CLEARLY!

By the way - I found something new (that I had not noticed before) on Tatoos! Read this: Leviticus 19: 28 WOW! I Said NO to this with some surgery I had to have in 1994! You can check My Profile and read about yourself - I don't mind!

Please be at Peace! Accept the Grace of God!

Take Care and God Bless!

unquestionably, a time IS coming while the yankee Classicalist voice would be silenced, as grew to become into the case with the Jew in 1930's Germany (see Daniel 8, 11; Zechariah 14; Revelation 11). Y'shua gave us a protracted dissertation of the huge image of the region at present unfolding (St. Matthew 24, 25). The wars and insurrections that, Y'shua warned us, could precede the taking of liberty are underway; while the roundups initiate, the demands for redress would be falling upon deaf ears, purely as interior the years purely before the statement of Independence, and purely as occurred interior the Golden Age of the 0.33 Reich. The St. Birgitta Society has been quietly documenting what would o.k. take place in the time of or as we communicate after the Obama administration, and issues would be fairly grotesque, if the St. Birgitta findings are any clue. a number of centers previously run via different Federal companies have been quietly reassigned to fatherland secure practices without fanfare, after ameliorations to lead them to suited as assembly and/or Relocation centers (as much as date from those operated via the conflict Relocation administration in 1942-40 six); purely the meant inmate classification is unknown..

Yes, tolerance is a one way street. That is the problem with faith, you can't always balance it with open-mindedness.

No, we haven't lost freedom of speech... yet. But with each of our civil liberties being slowly chipped away since 9/11, give it time, man, give it time.

Also, I have noticed that top religious contributors don't usually tackle the tough stuff, but top atheists or different thinkers usually do, even more than the silly questions. They WANT to stir up that hornet's nest and get a good debate going.

tolerance is whatever kind of street you want...some people are tolerant and others are not...no one has lost their freedom of speech in this country; all one need do is look on this forum, the television, radio, or the internet to see this, and a bigot is defined as one who values their own culture and ethnicity over all others, not simply one who has strong opinions...

A bigot is someone who is intentionally cruel in their beliefs. I don't agree with a lot of things and am VERY politically vocal but I try to be respectful about it.

Great Question

No you have not lost freedom of speech nor freedom to choose. Tolerance to truth is what is at stake here and strong opinions on what you support based upon real facts isnt punative, it's therapudic. Tolerance is a A One-Way Street God has blessed me abundantly, but one trait He did not give me was a sense of direction. Because of this I have a high appreciation of Arizona's one-way streets. It makes driving simple and logical. There is a one-way street we all must go on if we are to going to inherit eternal life.

John 14:6 (NNAS) Jesus said to him, I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. Jesus doesn't say a way among many, or one of may truths, which are all equal.
In 1999 America, "exclusivity" is more or less considered a profane word. And to be sure, there is no place in the Christian life for excluding someone because of race, socioeconomic background, appearance etc. God wants us to look on the heart as He does. (1 Sam. 16:7) But there is one area where there is no legitimate place for "tolerance", where there is only one true Path.

Some people truly believe that if one's beliefs are sincere, it does not matter what those beliefs are. In a newsletter of book reviews I recently read of a book called "The Interfaith Minister's Manual." The author says "Every one of them (religions) has a piece of the truth, but I don't feel any of them have it all. You can take from each of them the things that feel right for you and create your own philosophy." Yes, you can create your own philosophy. But only the belief system built upon the Bible and Jesus' sacrifice for our sins, will ensure our eternity in Heaven. Many of us have the idea we can find our own path to God, but God's word makes it clear that is not so.

Acts 4:12 (NNAS) And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.
If you have never called on the name of Christ, have never accepted His sacrifice on your behalf for salvation and want to do this, please write myself or any of my fellow devotional writers if you need help with this. If you know someone who is counting on someone or something other than Christ to get them to Heaven, please pray for God's words and timing to steer them in the right direction.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Lord, thank You for making it clear in Your word, the path You have given us for spending eternity with You. Please use us to gently share Your truth with those who are misled. In Jesus' name amen.

bigot: a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.

There's a difference between opinionated and bigotry.
