I would say that it isn't schizophrenia at all. There are four types: paranoid, catatonic, disorganized, and what they refer to as "undifferentiated". In my opinion, it sounds like none of the above. It could possibly be multiple personality disorder, although this is extremely rare and difficult to diagnose. I would say that she was just trying to play the "mentally ill" card to get out of trouble. Lots of people do it because they don't realize that it is relatively easy for a trained psychologist or psychiatrist to do testing that shows they are faking.

That is not identifiable as any specific type of schizophrenia. Delusions and hallucinations could be part of any form of schizophrenia.
Or, if it could be classified as Dissociation (distorted identification of self), it might be a different disorder.
Or maybe she made it up.

My wife and I both work in mental health--she told me about a patient at the state hospital who killed a police officer and said she thought he was her husband.

The court can declare somebody Not Guilty By Reason of Insanity; but they have to have a psychiatrist to testify that the person has a mental illness.

Schizophrenia is not two personalities or split personalities at all - it is a combinations of positive and negative symptoms - positive being hallucinations (hearing/seeing things that aren't real) and delusions, neative being social withdrawl etc. The vast majority of people with schizophrenia and mental illness as a whole are not violent - just pointing it out!!!!!
