This one sounds pretty good so far.

WASHINGTON—In an attempt to derail the compromise immigration bill working its way through the Senate, a group of House Republicans unveiled an alternative measure Tuesday that takes a harder line against immigration that would block illegal immigrants from becoming citizens while directing the Bush administration to enforce current laws.
Called the Secure Borders FIRST Act, the new bill focuses on improving security at the border, stiffening sanctions for employers who hire illegal immigrants, and establishing a market-based temporary guest worker program, which would allow immigrants into the country on 10-month renewable visas. It also increases penalties for gang membership and identity theft, and establishes English as the official language of the United States.

Much better, I of course want to read the entire proposal. I like the emphasis on securing our borders as the first step because without secure borders we are throwing money away. Also the area that many seem to forget is the employers, they can control the flow over the border and the overstays... Thanks for the info

Sounds ok, but would never happen. They've been saying all along that they need to stiffen sanctions, increase penalties, etc. and it never happens. There is only one way to control illegal immigration into this country...period! Get rid of all the illegals, and secure the borders now. Make english our ONLY language that immigrants have to learn if they want to use our country and stop giving them so many priveleges and breaks.

I liked all of it but the temporary guest worker program which would undermine re-employment efforts of Americans. If they weren't allowed to work here at all that would both allow Americans to be valued and eventually employed again (or better employed rather than underemployed) AND discourage them from border crossing at all. If they can't work here and they can't get free stuff here, they'd stop coming.

It is about time, that something was done. Here where i live, well i live in a border town, and i kid you not the employees are all at least 80% aliens, in hospitals, stores, etc. well they do not speak English, and they get upset when you don't speak Spanish. As far as the gangs, well the illegal aliens, their kids, here are horrible, they present their red white and green. It is truly bad.

The House apparently has a better view of the problems caused by illegal aliens.
We need to study this measure for merit, support it if they will assure deportation of illegals.
We need to continue to let the Senate know their bill is flawed and detrimental to the USA.

I don't see how this is really going to help. Those original 12 million illegals will still be here.. AND then 12 million more "guest workers" will arrive. They won't go back once they're here, plus they'll start having kids that are citizens... and it will be the same ole, same ole. We need to address the problem of filling certain jobs with Americans (what's wrong with making the criminals work).

And yet, Obama sends his representative to discuss HUMAN RIGHTS violations with China and refers to the Arizona law as being a "troublesome" example of how we have our own human rights problems in the US! Apologizing to CHINA about human rights problems in the US! My God, when will the man stop FINDING reasons to apologize about the US to other countries? This one is beyond insulting!

This is comprehensive - secure the border and employment via several methods.
Illegals should not become citizens, period. They should return to their country and be placed in the back of the line.

It is a step in the right direction but it won't win the marathon. I feel they should be deported to go home and fix their own country. All the money and resources we (American tax payers) are paying for to accommodate criminals doesn't make sense.
