They do, but they are scared too. They should really talk louder.

The same way that Most western Chritians won't protest when genocide is committed against some Muslims. Usually people react to those issue that directly affect them. Muslims do understand that those terrorists are not doing any good for any one and they denounce it. But they will (like any other human) be more outragious when someone attacks their identity. A more appropriate question would be does the world give enough focus on other Muslims and their views? All you hear is just that Muslim terrorists did that and said that and Muslims critics said that. I am very sure that if the world would just give a little attention to what Islam really says about terrorism, those people would be marginalized even within their society and would not advantage of youngsters. Every time western countries simply use force and destroy other countries, kill other people just because they happen to be fellow citizens of those terrorists, they are creating perpetual terrorist ideologies that they will have to fight for centuries to come.

Ron Dreher of the "Dallas Morning News" speaks of this. The article tells how the media quashes any attempt by moderate Muslims to speak out against the terrorists...terrorist that just happen to claim to be Muslim.
On the other hand, many American Muslims are on the fence whether to support shar'ia law in America or not. Many Muslims are not Islamists and this has divided that community also. But, if any can please name one Muslim nation that supported 9/11. I'm talking about the government, not the populace.

I've wondered the same thing.

I just finished reading an autobiography of a women who was born in Somalia as a Muslim and of her journey of discovery regarding the Islamic culture. It's called, "Infidel" by Ayaan Hirsi Ali and I highly recommend it.

I'm aware that a few Muslims do speak out against violence, but this women, from her personal experience, makes it clear that the Islamic culture makes this rare and very risky. From her perspective, it's clearly not a religion of peace as some claim, especially towards women, "unbelievers", and apostates (followers or ex-followers who criticize Islam in any way).

Firstly you must understand that Muslims are actually very peaceful people and the Quran (Equivalent of the Bible) forbids Muslims to hurt themselves in anyway or to hurt others. However, some Muslim extremists over-analyse a certain part in the Quran and believe that if they 'blow themselves up' and kill non-believers (Christians, Jews, etc) they will automatically go to Paradise (Equivalent to heaven).

It gives a bad name to Muslims who follow the Quran and are actually very peaceful people. Thus, stereotypes are created and even some people who have replied to this question believe that all Muslims blow themselves up for their god.

Now for your question. Many people in Muslim countries are afraid to speak up as then they will be classified as non-believers by the extremists and run the risk of being killed. So unfortunately, they keep their mouths shut.

However, in countries such as Australia and America, Muslims do speak out. Their words however are blurred out by the biased media. I know people who have worked in Television stations who have been witness to some extreme censorship. Muslims just cant have a say, and as a result the peaceful people are seen as aggressive predators.

Some do speak out, & yes they are afraid, with valid reason. Islamic radicals are possibly the most dedicated & savage foe mankind has ever faced. People with a political agenda have woven religion & culture into a political ideology that allows absolutely no dissent or critique of their goals or leaders. Any Muslim that speaks out in public is likely to be murdered by zealots willing to give their life to silence anyone critical of their leader or his goals. One might view this as Stalinism with a God.

I agree with you. When the clerics and imams are interviewed on TV they always hedge the issue. All it needs is for some highly-respected, non-violent leader to say that violence is NEVER the answer and perhaps the ordinary, normal Muslim would not allow their sons to travel to Terrorist School and die in the expectation of virgins at their beck and call!

There is nothing that can be done except for a groundswell of the vast majority of ordinary Muslims calling for an end to this viscious way of forcing peopl to profess to believe in something. No-one will make anyone actually believe something, they will just make the right noises to survive!

Anyway, I agree with your hypothesis, they are, indeed, very, very afraid.

It is not just Muslims, it is Christians, Buddhist and others that for one reason or another fears for their safety. To speak out against an injustice is too see your fellowman as yourself. Would you want this done to you. Muslims are ask not too speak evil against their brother; and so many don't. Then there are those that understand that evil is wrong regardless of whomever is committing the evil and will speak up and out.

To do an evil to avoid an evil is wrong.

Yep.

Speaking against Islam in Muslim countries could mean death, castration, rape or any horrific activity against the family. Trouble is instead of receiving sympathy from others, especially in the West, all these victims get is the blanket categorization of Islamic countries as barbaric, brutal, uncivilized etc. In effect, we are putting the victims in the same category as the perpetrators just because they wish to continue believing in the peaceful definition of their faith.

Some Muslims are incredible people and deserve better treatment against prevailing stereotype.

As for "Ali"'s quotes:

Quran 8:12 - Quran 8:18 - refers to a justified war in self defence, the language is strong to motivate the Muslims, not to fear. You think the US general says to his soldiers in Iraq "OK boys go out and have fun, you get a cookie if you don't get shot!"...?

Qur'an 8:38 on wards and Qur'an 8:65 onwards- You even quote the verse without understanding,

And fight them on until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah altogether and everywhere; but if they cease, verily Allah doth see all that they do. (Quran 8:39)

And the Muslims are fighting opression and are fighting to be able to worship God without perscution.
