Igun is TOTALLY right!

Walmart is "heaven & hell". Great prices but at what "price"!

Tackle/bait shop's use to be a "haven" for fishermen. You got all your bait and INFO at the "Mom & Pop" store. And not just Info about fishing , info about your COMMUNITY! Baitshops/tackle-stores use to be "gossip institution" OF every town.

Now, most of these places (baitshops) have closed because "Sam" decided to sell our soul's to the Chinese. It's a shame.

Mom & Pop Bait/tackleshop :There's nothing better than having a cup of coffee at 6 am waiting for "the kid" ,(every baitshop has a "kid" that gets your bait), to get your bait , while you either peruse the new lures or "jaw" about your last fishing trip with the "owner". The owner is usually a "crusty" old soul that doesn't "mince" words but will almost always give you the "straight dope" about "whats going on".

At Walmart: There is a 17 YR old, that couldn't tell you the difference between a Rapala or a SHOTGUN! There is NO free coffee or free advice! And you just don't get that Tackle-shop smell, (I love the smell of a tackle shop. It smells like "fishing time"! lol).

We should all be ashamed. But, Walmart does have a sale on.........

No. State regulations are destroying fishing shops. Each year, the state enviroment departments keeps increasing the size limit of kept fish. As far as e-bay, they do have excellent bargains, but if you can't keep a fish why bother fishing if you're going to have to throw every caught fish back into the water.

Have to say that as a fisherman I buy majority of tackle on line.I do not use e-bay but prefer to use specialist tackle shops like Fishtec ,Bosfish or Harris tackle. There are many sites on line selling branded goods at competitive prices so why bother with 2nd best?

l don't believe so,l do believe however that the smaller tackle shops, the high st stores are slowly going out of business due to them not being able to contend with the likes of bigger and mail order like Bennett's of Sheffield, Chapman's angling and Dragon carp direct etc etc.
at the end of the day, for example, you need a new reel you've seen one at a local tackle shop priced at £50 you get on the net, go to a mail order company and find you can get the very same reel for £25 plus you get an extra spool.
which are you gonna buy? l know which l'll go for......

I had 2 shops and no ebay had no effect on them!
Now what does effect bait shops are walmarts and places that carry walts crawlers! I had many customers tell me that walmart sells tackle so much cheaper and why dont I do what they do sell cheap!
And for walts crawlers my bait was fresher and cheaper than theirs but I was not in every gas station and convenience store in town! But for ebay doing any damage no!

No chance. You can't have a cup of tea and a good chat and get a few freebees on top of what you buy.
