The image of God and Adam are two different things. The image of God was referring to The ability to exhibit the qualities of God such as conscious thought, love, jealousy etc.
The image of Adam would have to do with the basic characteristics a n earthly father gives to a son. It also has to do with the gender.
So the answer is both.
