There are two styles called Sanchin Ryu. One is the style that Ray refered to and is based in the UK. The other is an American system. First of all, Lee is obviously a hater and doesn't know what he is talking about. I have been doing Sanchin Ryu for two years and it is NOT a belt factory. As far as being a money maker for the founder... Well all classes are run through community education programs and the sensais work on a volunteer basis. Prices vary depending on the area, but the money typically goes to the community ed program, not to Sanchin Systems. I pay $70 for 8 weeks for a family of four. I have seen cases where people can't afford to pay and they still get to go to class. Advancing in rank costs about $25. Not what I would call a big money maker. As far as being quickly promoted...totaly wrong. Yes, the first couple of ranks can be acheived fairly quickly, but after that not so much. My son has been a purple belt for three years! Why? Because he is not ready to advance. I know a guy who is been practicing for 13 years and just finally got his second degree black belt. Why? Because he was not ready to advance any quicker. My point is, this System is NOT the way lee49202 depicted it. Finally, the founder, did not just study karate for a "brief" time. He studied Isshin-Ryu as well as other martial arts for a long time. His decision to start Sancin-Ryu was partly to make martial arts available to everyone despite their ability to pay. Sound like a belt factory to you? Sorry, if I am sounding defensive, but I love Sanchin Ryu and I would highly recommed it to anyone.

I did Sanchin Ryu when I was younger. Though I didn't get very far in it. I did a few forms, and some strikes. Not too out of the ordinary for me. It's ok, but as said above me: It was made by an black belt of other styles.

Sanchin Ryu is an American style created by a Leslie, Michigan man who trained for a brief period of time in an Okinawan style of karate and felt he had a better way. It is purely a money game for it's founder. I have seen many of their practicioners and have not been impressed by any of them. If you pay your fees on time and maintain semi-regular attendance in classes you will be quickly promoted even if you don't know the material. I've had over a dozen wander into my dojo over the years, when they find out how little they know in relationship to their rank. I usually find value in ALL styles of martial arts - except Sanchin Ryu.
